I have a 03 Daytona and 07 Sprint and both are anti-clockwise to undo. Spray it with WD40 or similar and leave overnight if it is hard to remove. Along bar on the end of the socket helps also. Also bend the washer straight before trying to remove the nut. Should be bent up along one of the flat sides of the nut in case you had not noticed. Get a new one (washer ) if it has been bent too much as its no fun having a sprocket come off while riding.
