i aquired a triumph frame and dual carb motor, but cant find the motor number listed anywhere ! i know there are gurus here that might be able to help. frame number on the neck is H21437, which i believe is a 61? the dual amal carb motor number is TF17920, its a unit construction , but i can't find a reference to the id of the motor number . thx in advance!

If it is a -61. it can`t be a unit? Unit models run from -63.

Non of the numbers H21437 or TF17920 are listed as a unit-construction in the book, and I am not sure what You mean with the "dual amal carb motor number"?

ok, let me clarify,,,, there is a number stamped on the L/S of the neck,,, H21437, there is a number stamped on the L/S engine case, just below the fins on the head, number is TF17920. the engine has two carburetors.

Ok, I understand!
From -63. to mid. -69 the engine and framenumbers have a DU prefix, DU101 to DU90282

From mid -69. the number had a prefix of two letters that indicated the month and year of manufacture.

Example: AC = January -69, BD = February -70. and so on..........

But I can not find "TF" prefix for the unit twin!

I can see your pics and see the number, but i don`t know what this is! Can it be a late model?

ugh,, its driving me to drink! thx for the help terdah2! ive heard about the screwy motor and frame numbers triumph used, and i'm guessing this is a prime example,, but again,, thx for giving it a shot,, looks like its destined for the great salvage yard in the sky, and might get reincarnated as a honda fender. each triumph that meets its maker, makes the remaining ones that much more valuable!

this is an early unit 350 or 500 twin, it has a threaded plug in the distributor mount later models this was not drilled out, and comparing the number stamped to my 70 T100C it looks like the number may have been ground off and restamped. Gearhead

Don't scrap it, part it out if you have to get rid of it. I'm sure there is someone that would want it just like it is, goofy numbers and all.

that number is in the 1960 350/500 range.

it could be a stamped dealer replacement case.

pop the head and measure the bore and stroke next?

the frame is in the 1961 range of numbers. what's the state want for registration?

Frame: H21437 is a 1961 350 / 500.

Engine: That engine is definitely a unit 350 / 500 ... of similar vintage to the frame as it's early enough to still have the distributor hole. (although a late engine could be drilled / tapped / plugged like that) The number on the engine is bogus. 'TF' doesn't exist on the late numbering and only existed as a FRAME number prefix on a couple of prewar bikes. (39 and 40, I think)

I can’t see the left side carb completely, but I would guess those are chopped GP mono blocks with are remote float bowl maybe off '59 - '61 or earlier, would be interesting to know what size the carbs are. what are the numbers on the carbs? (photo of left one with numbers).

Also the rocker boxes are the smooth I think also fits with this period I think its pre '61 modified 350 or 500, Interesting though.

Some more photos of the bike its self etc will also help. Close up of the carbs and manifold interests me.
