I want to change the fork oil in my 02 Daytona and it says in the shop manual that it recommends Show SS8. I am assuming this is 8 weight - anyone know if this is true? I know I will be putting in stiffer springs and was wondering if I should go with a heavier weight oil also. Also, anyone know if the fill volume they list (586cc) is correct? Thanks.

tri650, From a search the SS8 is 10W oil. The volumn is listed in the service manual as 586 cc, but as you're unlikely to drain the tubes compleately (unless a complete rebuild) the oil level becomes the important measurement (78 mm from top of tube w/fork fully compressed.).

If you are looking for a stiffer ride, going to 15W will make big difference. On my last bike I first dropped in progressive spings and still wanted more, so adding the heavier weight was the bigger difference for me. Might want to try the oil swap first before switching out the springs to see if that will make up the difference you are looking for.

I am using Racetech springs and AMSOIL medium weight shock therapy.
Works great for me.
