I hadn't ridden in about three weeks due to extremely cold weather. By extremely cold weather, I mean 20 F or less in Reno.

It finally warms up into the thirties on Saturday so I get the Bonnie out and take it for a ride. I guess I was so overjoyed to be out on a bike that coming out of the gate I was over-exhuberant and got snagged by the NHP (on a bike no less, I think a BMW) on Virginia Street near McCabe Drive within five minutes of leaving the garage. He paced me at 74 in the 55 zone. Also claimed I did an illegal lane change whatever that is. I thought it was legal to change lanes.

Due to my good demeanor he only wrote me up for 65 and dropped the lane change BS.

Northern Nevada is not what it used to be, that is the wide open west. More and more NHP up here so keep your eye out for them.

I also try to keep in mind that my first few rides after an extended, mournful session of no riding (first spring rides in particular) are re-training sessions. Your skills are rusty and need honing. Be careful.

Chuck,

Tough luck and a weird place to get a ticket.

Ill be in Reno the end of this week for work, but I'll be driving my work cage - a retired NHP cruiser. Don't pull over for me. I don't have working lights, radio, or siren. :hihi:

Yeah. Well it kind of taught me a lesson to be more on the look out for the police. Basically I was maneurvering and accelerating to get away from car traffic and he nailed me for it. I am going to do traffic school and get the two points removed.

When you are over in Reno, you should check out Freedom Cycle if you can. Last Saturday when I got the cite I went by there afterward and they have a blue Tiger 1050. Cool bike but I kind of fell in love with the Yellow 675 they have. I think the yellow 1050 Tiger would be the ticket for me. No pun intended.

Sorry to hear about the summons, at least the fellow rider cut you a bit of a break.
I got my first Triumph ticket on 114 in Colorado this last summer. There's tasty sweepers a few miles outside of Saguache that are just to hard not to indulge in at, ahem, elevated speeds :-D . I was coming off the last bend of these sweepers and starting to rein in the triple when I flashed by a local county deputy and got lit up on radar. 64 in a 45, my pleasant demeanor didn't keep me from a citation :( . It cast a pall over the rest of my riding day.

I later called to settle the ticket and was told the appearance date was set by the deputy for a Monday, when the court is closed. Ticket dismissed, phew!

Wow.......was that the same cop that ticketed you Chuck? Kinda reminds me of when i was young and me and a buddy were wrongly arrested (and later let go) by a crooked cop. W/o going into details as to why, we could tell he was obviously very crooked. Later on maybe a month later we saw on the news he was arrested for accepting bribes or some such thing. Now i WAS happy to see that !

I don't know if it was the same guy. On the cite his name is shown as M. Steinhardt. I was going to check the gazette tonight and see if they released his name. There can't be that many motorcycle NHP in Reno Nevada. I'll let you know if I find out.
Maybe some flowers are in order.
:-D
Or maybe if he is off on disability leave he just might miss the court date.
