Fender Eliminator Kit, version 3

Like most of you, as soon as I got Speedy home, the rear fender garbage came off. First solution was the Skyking kit.

Then later I installed the Motofab kit which raised the plate another 1-2 inches, plus pushed it further back under the fender an inch or so. Looked really good, but..........

This is the latest version. I love the look of completely opening up the rear to expose the tire. (No, I am not putting on a single exhaust...)

I ordered up these Universal LED Light Bars from Signal Dynamics and mounted them to the side of the fender. They are dual filament bulbs, so while I had everything open, I tapped them into the rear running light, so they light up a light amber orange while just riding and then change to a VERY bright orange when the turn signal is applied.

I then took my old Skyking kit, flipped it upside down, cut off one of the bends, and used the blinker mounts to fit PERFECTLY on the old passenger footpeg holes.

I mounted it in the upper of the two holes, so the plate is clearly visible from behind. There is also an LED light there to illuminate the license plate.

Whaddya think?

JOHN

nice application.

i like that you one of the only people i have seen that cover the stray bolt holes from the rear pegs. just go to the local hardware store and buy the SAE black hex bolts. the things are priceless! many sizes and bolts to match.
Brilliant! Very innovative.
That looks F#$k'n beautiful John, Just right!! :chug:
Plugging the empty holes with black bolts does make a difference.

very nice gracie, I likes that the best of any I've seen mounted up underneath like that. Looks awesome man! :upthumb:
Very nice . Good job. I prefer to keep the little pointy tail though.
How much do these fender elim. kits cost for your newer triples (ballpark)? I just cut mine and added different directionals.

Tea - they can range in price from $50 ish to over $200 depending on what comes with the kit.

The cheaper ones usually re-use the larger stock blinkers, but cheap, small LED's can be picked up at any shop, just pick the size and shape you like.

Oh yea, you need to drop in a new flasher also if you don't want the turn signals blinking fast. Resistors work also, but tend to get hot, so you need to plan for that when mounting them. A new flasher fixes the problem at the source though.

I think I got about $125 into this one, with the Skyking mount flipped and the LED's. Granted, it's my 3rd expense on the same modification, but I think I finally got it right this time. :-D

well alright, if you guys are figure'n in yer blinker cost too, I've got a bit more in that. I purchased the integrated light and flasher relay from newspeed3.com That kit costs about $135(the flasher relay is like $25! :hammer: but plugs right in) including shipping. But after the money I made on the mad dr kit, I have about $65 in it, plus the 40 pennies. :-D
why is it that some of the pics in this forum dont open up on my computer..... little boxes with red crosses are all I get. would love to see these pics..... some help please
I dunno man.

They are showing up okay on my work computer.....I uh, mean, um, at my friends computer...... :-D

Try right clicking on the X and selecting show picture.

If you wanna PM me an email address, I can send them to you that way and then you can download 'em and check it out.

Nice looking installation. Have you confirmed that the tire won't hit the plate under full suspension compression?
Hey Curmud,

Yep, even with my fat arse (175 lb) :) on it, still plenty of clearance.

With it mounted to the lower mounts, it was a little too close, plus I don't wanna be hassled by the law since they couldn't really see it. But sitting in a car/truck behind the bike, the plate is clearly visible.

Looks Great John! I think that would be my favorite plate mount for the 1050s. Good Job :upthumb:

Hey Cheap, I think if you rotated your plate forward so that it was on an angle, you could mount yours on the rear peg hole and not worry about clearance with the hugger.

yep, me thinky too TR, after I saw John's plate, I've already been think'n about it. Thanks gracie! :-D
since you bought a led light to replace the stock plate light holder you wanna sell it?
Looks great!!!
I wonder if that would sneak by NYS inspection?
Bonus: red light cams & speed cams might not catch the plate ( not that you should run reds...)
