Since I bought my speedy on December, 30th, I have had what I would call some real issues with the transmission. False neutrals between 5th, and 6th gear. I had not posted about this before, but rather read every other post about the problem and thought this would fix itself. My problem seemed to be just a little different in that, when I shift from 5th to 6th, I have to hold pressure with my toe until I feel the dogs slide into 6th. Maybe a 1.5 to 2 second delay.

So, went in for the 500 mile service on Saturday. I mentioned to the service writer about the problem and the first thing he said was: "Lazy foot?" I said, ah, no. I have owned many bikes and have been riding for more than 30 years. He said: "Ok, we'll have a look see." After the mechanic did the service, he took my bike for a test ride. He then searched me out and said: "I think you have a real problem here. I got the tranny to do exactly what you said it would do."

So, here I am, the proud owner of the best bike I have ever owned, stuck 35 miles from my home, with no great bike to ride home. SH!T. I felt so alone; almost hollow. Full of dread.

They are gonna pull the clutch out and check the actuator springs, and also the shift dogs. Not sure how they are gonna get to those, but, that's why I pay them, right? The good news is that it is, of course, all warranty. The bad news is I'm stuck riding my v-rod, or FZ-1 until it gets fixed. Not that those bikes are not great by themselves, just not as great as speedy is. I'm sure you guys can relate.

I'll keep you posted as to what they find.

Mark.

Mine did that the whole ride home when brand new (it had 1 mile on it at the time). Now at 2700 miles it does that once a month tops. I'll ride it out a bit longer. If it still does it after another 2000 miles I'll take it in. It's got a 2 year warranty so I"m not worried about it just yet. I think it's still breaking in due to the fact that I rarely am shifting between 5th and 6th. Mine's an 06 fwiw.

Hope nothing like that happens to me. I'm picking up a new ( my first) '07 S3 next month (hopefully sooner), trading in my '06 Bonnie (reluctantly) for it. I would like to keep the Bonnie but will be able to pout better if something is wrong with the S3, and I don't have another ride while it's getting sorted.

(Does that make sense? Yes......no). :( :-| :moon:

Mine did the same thing, but the false nuetrals were more than between 5-6th. Really grinds your teeth when it goes partially into gear, but not all the way. I was told to really work the shift lever purposely til it breaks in. It seems to be gettin better with miles. 500 mile service really made a difference and i suspect will only get better with future break in and oil changes. For a while there, i had to pull up hard on the shift lever and hold it while it did a little double click out of one cog and into another. Actually had a bruised toe for a while. :???:

I have had the same exact issue a few times myself, i thought it may have just been me, because its not a constant thing. I'm sittin at about 4000 miles right now, I will see what happens with it. Does anyone know if this can develop into a serious issue?

Thats weird, mine doesn't do it...but i've only got 400 mi on it due to snow/ice, generally sh__y weather.

My ol' '02 guzzi lemans would do it all day long, kinda scary at speed.

I wish I had a Vrod to slum around on sometimes! Hope you get your bike sorted.

Mine does it also, but it's more like a double click before it goes in.

I thought I had a lazy foot at first, so I adjusted my lever down to give me a little more leverage. It's not really any better, I can just muscle it in and I make sure I wait. At 500 mile service they told me it would loosen up. We will see this summer.

Sorry about the post hijack n6yga :-D Mulcahey I buy all my bits and pieces online at Jack Lilley's, So far, barends, Seat cowl, Hugger, for the S3 & S4 Tank protectors, Radiator protectors from Mikes Grills UK. The seat cowl was around $170 cheaper than my dealer could supply and that was delivered to my door!!

Gotta Rouette Green speedy too... mine has shift problems between second and third during hard accelleration. I go to shift up and the pedal has no resistance. I have to let off the throttle and do it again to make it work. Doesn't sound as bad as yours, but a pain none the less...

For what it's worth, my Sprint 1050 has the same issue. Between 5th and 6th is normally the only time it does it and only when you are really pouring it on. It doesn't do it all the time only when you forget about it and shift too softly. Sometimes I will get a false neutral between 1 & 2 or 2 & 3 when trying to ride a wheelie out but that's probably more to do w/ trying to shift too quick under load. I know, I know I should have bought a Speedy if I was wanting to ride on one wheel, but hindsight is 20/20! :hammer:

Oh and my bike has about 12,000 miles so I don't know if this problem goes away w/ more miles.

I have 1700 miles on mine and I noticed that same issue. I just concentrate on not letting it get between 5th and 6th. It is not the best shifting bike around. I wonder how well it would do with a quick shifter installed?

No prob on the hijack, boys. We're all friends here. Let me know when you are in California next and I'll buy ya a cool one.

Seems like a pattern here. I'm wondering if the springs they use in the 06-07 models is weaker than in the 05. Hmmm...

I'm hoping to hear something today. We'll see...

And yes, it is nice to have a bike or two to fall back on. But, I really want to sell the FZ-1. Nice bike, but not a triple. :-D

The V-Rod will never be sold. I've got way too much money in that bike. I know it's a Hardley, but it's the best thing they have ever built.
