A little while back, there was a thead here that had mentioned and comparo between the Ducati GT1000 and a Thruxton, in which the Thrux took an unfair beating. Now I propose we give Ducati a handicap of fours years or more and let them use their 2007 ultra-modern bike

and put it up agaist a Triumph that is no longer made that, knowing what we know, would probably leave the pretty Ducati crying in it's marinara

The GORGEOUS Triumph is from Member Classic03 Album. I think even an 855 Thunderbird or T-Bird Sport would mop up the 1000 Ducati, and probably run 20 years longer. Give me $1000.00 to mod the traditionally soft Triumph suspension, and I'd guarantee it. Shame that bike is not around any more. It's like a Bonneville on steroids.

Not that a well sorted Thrux needs any help, but here's another member with a great T-Bird.

Guess Triumph was ahead of the curve with the big bore retro bike, but it just didn't sell here. Bring it back with a 1050? Like to see it as a "Hurricane". Maybe get a small 500cc single entry cafe bike named T-Bird.

Brooksie,

Right on.

The neighbor I ride with -the guy who got me onto Triumph - has a Legend, similar to the bike in the pic - it is a fast, formidable motorcycle! Dramatically faster than the Bonneville - but interesting to note that, when parked side by side, the Bonnie looks about 4/5 the size of the Legend... I really liked the Thunderbird Sport when I first started shopping, but alas, when I sat on the bike - which I did several times - by short inseam had my knees knocking against the cylinder head. Just too big and tall for me... but cool bike anyway... definitely operating in a different performance realm than the Bonnie...

Cheers,

D9

That 500cc retro entry bike would be great! I'll take two if they ever should build such a thing.

Amazing thing was today I was by the shop and a regular customer rode in on hie '01 Black & Orange Adventurer (40 degrees outside). We swaped bike stories for awhile and went outside to admire his bike. Looked like new. National Cycle shield, back rest, luggage rack. You could eat off the engine. He tosses me his keys and lets me take it around the neighborhood! Nice bike. I love triples, that's why I have the Daytona, but this bike was fun. 855 putting out around 70hp and torque everywhere. There were no more T-Bird Sports around in '04 when I bought my Bonnie. I imagine if you upgrade the shocks/forks you'd get the same improvement I had on my Bonnie. Differnt frame, not the cradle like Bonnies which will not let him put on highway bars or center stand. But what a gem. It is a real shame Triumph could not carry on with that line, considering all the bruhaha we are getting on the Ducati Sport line in the last year. Again, I am looking forward to my 904 Bonnie with 70+ hp and going Duc(k) hunting.
Did you know this bike was designed by the same engineer who designed the last Nortons?
R80t-I think we are missing alot of fun with smaller bikes in the states. While I enjoy the bikes and their power very much, I also think that cornering/braking skills are severely overlooked. With the rare exception of naturally talented riders, it seems silly to send newbies out with anything over 50hp because they need time to learn SURVIVAL SKILLS. The dealer where I go is in an urban area and is letting Suzuki go this year. He is going with all European bikes and scooters: Triumph, Aprillia and Guzzi. Aprillia has a lot of scooters and smaller bikes that lend themselves to urban commuter and economic transportation. Should be interesting.
