Hi All,

Came back from a three day ride and my buddies are all complaining about my pipes. These are Harley guys. The PO put TORs on and it is loud. They refuse to ride behind me!

Anyhow, since two pipes go into one exhaust and one pipe goes into the other one, are the internals the same? I would think the one with the two headers would need to flow a lot more exhaust. Just wondering cuz there are a ton of Bonneville exhausts on E-Bay and thinking about picking a pair up. Since they'r two cylinders, I would think the Bonnie pipes would be identical.

While the inlet size might be similar (I'm not sure), the mounting brackets are certainly different between the twins and the triples.

It would help to know what bike you are riding as there are several different exhausts

TORs are now very hard to find in good condition and a highly prized accessory. My gawd don't give them up and take a giant step backwards! BTW, I bumped my 'dB measurement' thread for you too. Just tell the HD guys they are a bunch of weenies and to try and keep up! :)

The internals of our exhaust are the same on left and right pipes.

There are two type inlets on the Bonneville silencer. One is a straight end and another is at a 45º. You would want the straight fitting.

The Bonneville silencer has the same size inlet diameter as our bikes. The Bonneville silencer is about the same over all length, the mounting orientation is different though. You would have to make up some brackets to mount them and cut off the kickstand stop pad on the Bonneville can.

I will ride with anyone but Harley guys.(sorry cannot tolerate that level of ignorance). Last month I went out.with a group of four riders. Me on an old Legend, an old friend on a Kawasaki 900 bagger, a younger guy on a Yamaha V-Max, and another on a newer Triumph 800xc. A good time was had by all. No whining, complaining or bitching. Choose you riding buddies more carefully next time. Just one guys opinion so no arguments please. ...J.D.

Not all TORs are created equal. I had them already fitted when I bought the bike, and they sounded perfect- deep and mellow without being loud. Zero popping on a closed throttle

When the left one split I found a replacement on ebay. Same part number but it was ridiculously, obnoxiously loud. It pops and farts on a closed throttle or when the choke is on.The mounting screws were also a different size, I think 6mm instead of 8mm.

I fitted a 4" universal baffle into the inlet end of the muffler to tone it down. It's a lot better noise-wise but still does not sound as good as the previous one did. You could try doing that to both sides if you have the "loud" version.

Hi - Thanks for all the responses. I have a 1995 Thunderbird. The bike pops and farts when I let off on the throttle. Rejetted numerous times and had the carbs synced professionally...

Did not know there are different types of TOR pipes. Someone's selling Thunderbird Sport pipes on CL near me. Might consider them. Are they the same as the standard T-Bird pipes?

Something I have learned with these carburetted Triumph engines. They don't like premium grade fuel. If you are using it, go down to mid grade and it will pop a lot less. It may still pop. Just not as much. All three of mine grumble a little, but not bad. Even the one with stock pipes. ...J.D.

Those are multiple questions and there are lots of choices but too much info to type. Pm me and we can chat on the phone. I've tried about 6 types of mufflers on my Tbs and would gladly share the insight

Zee, I have a 2004 TBS running stock everything (air and silencers). Bike runs very well but so quiet....I have just ordered a set of Mistral silencers. In your learned opinion, will I need to make carburetor adjustments following installation? Thanks for your time!

I run with pea shooter togas, they are completely empty and criminally loud.
Only rejetted when I modded the air filter because the mix was too lean.
Never had an issue while interchanging pipes of different sorts, if not that with silent pipes I speed because I can't hear how fast I am going. And feel lame.

I went and bought a set of Sprint pipes for my Adventurer. I liked the sound with the stock baffles but turned out they were to restrictive so I pulled them to which the pipes were way to loud for my taste so I went and made my own baffles with parts bought from e-bay and Tractor Supply!, Happy camper now.( pic's are of my first attempt, I have since made a better set )

When I owned my Adventurer I bought the factory TORS it was better than standard but still got some custom headers and cans made anyway, I still have the TORS and original headers in the shed somewhere 4 Triumphs later...

The OEM pipes are super heavy and so long that they need to be removed when taking my rear wheel off. Wish I can drop pictures in this forum wo having to link to somewhere else. The Emgo shorties are nice. Not too loud when idling but will roar when opened up. Hope I don’t get pulled over.

Usually jetting only needs to be changed if you remove the air box and add pods. Doubt you will need it just for a muffler change. I don’t have the air box and am running 42/145 jets with factory pro needles one shim up.

Exhaust Popping

Just noticed you have been trying Jets to stop the popping, I did the same for about 4 years and eventually gave up, just recently I changed the Mikuni carbs to Kei Hin(with a jet kit) and not a pop since. Better idle,smoother roll on throttle and no pops, only regret is I didnt do this years ago
