The right to relocate yourself is, in my opinion, one of the basic human rights. But every nation also has the right to decide who they will allow in, temporarily or permanently. And that means that at times, we have two rights in conflict, which is always interesting.
Because of the EU, Romanians and Bulgarians can now legally move anywhere they'd like within the EU. It will certainly be good for Romania and Bulgaria. If I were German or a citizen of the UK, I know what I'd think about it, but then I never would have supported the EU to begin with.
In the US, the uproar is illegal immigrants, and that's a different ball of wax; the two rights I listed above aren't in conflict, because the people in question are violating the rights of the US to decide who should be allowed in. Of course, they could argue very effectively (as they do, with their feet) that the US doesn't really mean what they say, or the border would be secure.
What's the answer? More riding time, and better guitars. Maybe some good whisky on occasion. I'll let you know in a few years how my answer has worked out.
