The right to relocate yourself is, in my opinion, one of the basic human rights. But every nation also has the right to decide who they will allow in, temporarily or permanently. And that means that at times, we have two rights in conflict, which is always interesting.

Because of the EU, Romanians and Bulgarians can now legally move anywhere they'd like within the EU. It will certainly be good for Romania and Bulgaria. If I were German or a citizen of the UK, I know what I'd think about it, but then I never would have supported the EU to begin with.

In the US, the uproar is illegal immigrants, and that's a different ball of wax; the two rights I listed above aren't in conflict, because the people in question are violating the rights of the US to decide who should be allowed in. Of course, they could argue very effectively (as they do, with their feet) that the US doesn't really mean what they say, or the border would be secure.

What's the answer? More riding time, and better guitars. Maybe some good whisky on occasion. I'll let you know in a few years how my answer has worked out.

I was astonished to learn that E.U. country membership had doubled from 15 to 27 in four years! Could be problematic.

Less astonishing is the fact the the Bularians use a horse whip to whip out the old year and ring little bells to welcome the New year.

Call me a conspiracy theorist but am i the only one who sees us heading for a one world gov't? Does'nt this scare anybody? It does me. Imagine all the worlds corrupt governments rolled into one and governing the entire population of earth as if they were one big ball of wax to be molded as they wish. Like a big flock of sheep.

Cultures change with time anyway. Who wants to live in a museum?

Regarding Romanians, I hear a lot of people saying "I don't mind the Poles and the Czechs, but I don't want Romanians over here". The subtext seems to be that all Romanians are gypsy scroungers, a feeling based on long enmity of "travellers" taking over fields and lay-bys in rural areas, setting up home for a while, trashing it, then moving on, leaving rubbish and an accelerated crime rate behind. Hmmm. Some fact in that, unfort., but not exactly a PC attitude to generalise about an entire nation. Some Romanians were interviewed in the Times today and hardly any wanted to come and work in the cold, damp and hideously expensive UK anyway.

The UK has always been a melting pot of different races. There was a programme on TV a short while ago that I only saw a bit of, but some Northern lad who regarded Southern England as another country, let alone Europe, submitted his blood for testing only to discover that in the distant recesses of his past he'd picked up a bit of South East Asian DNA. It made him rethink his personal, rather rabid political philosophy a bit, let's say.

I'd like to be wrong but I have a suspicion it is to do with building up trading empires. Anyone with an modicum of sense can see that China, India, Asia and Russia are going full speed ahead to be the next world economic giants. History has taught us that all empires only have a limited time.

The real issue I believe - is that this planet is somewhat over populated. As a few elite massage the last remaining energy carriers(Oil,Coal, etc...), economies will prosper locally to exploit those resources, bolstered by certain interactions of a few conglomerates(industrial/manufacturing, hitech etc...) and the relative interests of local Governments (China, India, Russia etc...) -(in)/ outsourcing. The consequence is that those that can move, actually must. With China - the move to Cities from the Hinterland/Agri centres). The up coming generations need to be able to utilize the change in local economies and move to exploit them. It is actually no use complaining, we will all be over run anyway, it would be foolhardy to fight. But this process has been happening for a very long time( consider the spread of civilisation from the fertile crescent) - just recently with the Capitalist slant at play it seems more apparent. Borders in the past sought only to exploit regions by refining identities of the populace - Europe, has been fraught with wars between boundaries for ages, it is only now that unity within regions - the EU - is being sought by the power elites to allow a redistribution of wealth or in fact cheap labour, by the inclusion of neighbouring ex Soviet countries.
Of course none of this is going to be sustainable as the population of the planet rises.
Soon, perhaps 200 yrs, maybe sooner, plagues and natural disasters will cull much of the populace - whether there is design to that happening by certain powers is debatable. But 6 plus billion people and growing, something will have to rupture or as many already wish - Rapture - to force the issue in some manner or form. NWO freaks may see that an Agenda is already at play - the Reagun/bUsh erosion of the American middle class, as a move to motivate the 300,000,000 people in the US. But essentially what is happening is everywhere - the energy created by that motion of peoples rearranges economies and cultures - nothing is really sacred, it is all about those who plan to climb to the top of the human pyramid for the last gasp that matters - and how they position for that.?
 You and I have no say or sway, history just marches on. Happy New Year all!
