Do I really need to disconnect the battery when disconnecting and connecting the brake light harness?

I'm getting ready to install the OEM rear rack and one of the steps is removing the rear fender.

Thanks.

I can't say I bothered but it's not an major deal. Remove the seat and take off the black, (negative) terminal and tuck it out of the way. That will isolate the battery.

Thanks. I've got 4 things connected to the battery and didn't want to disconnect everything. I'll save all of 5 minutes :)

There is no need to disconnect the battery at all, just unplug the harness then the whole tail end is isolated.
