I had been debating getting a side stand for my ‘12 T100 for quite some time but decided to wait till I could get a deal too good to pass up. $50 new in the box on Craigslist- great deal.

I had done enough research to know that the spring would be the challenging part but found an easy way to do it that I wanted to pass along. This may be a well known way to do it already. If not, hopefully it can help someone who’s having trouble installing the spring.

One of the first steps is to install the notched spring retaining peg to the frame near the front sprocket that the C shaped piece hooks over.

When I installed the peg, I left it loose so that it could wobble around. This allowed more play in the spring at the other end where you need to hook it to the tab on the stand itself. I was able to loop a string around each of the springs and easily pull them into place.

I then went back and tightened up the nut on the mounting peg. The spring pressure kept it from rotating with the nut. Once it tightened up the job was done!

I found a super easy way to install mine when I took the sidecar off last year.

The key is to ignore the stupid instructions that tell you to bolt the center stand in and then try to attach the spring. That's making your life hard for no reason.

Instead, put the spring on the center stand, without attaching the center stand bolts to the frame. Then hook the other end of the spring to the little clip on the frame. Once you do that, you can use the leverage of the center stand itself to pull the spring taut. You only have to get the C-stand "close enough" to the mounting horns on the frame to get one bolt in. Once you've got one bolt in, just twist the C-stand so the second bolt lines up and you're done. It literally took me 5 minutes to do it this way after spending way to much time trying to grab the end of the spring and pull it to loop over the clip on the frame.

OP FYI: You need to edit the first line in your post to read "centerstand" not side stand.

I did my CS as per UJMrider's method...worked a treat.
A few other things I've learned about stands on the Bonneville:
1. When you move to a different length shock upgrade (from the T100 to Thruxton length for example), the SS and CS will be affected....SS will give too much lean over while the CS will not be able to lift rear tire clear off the ground. Using shorter shocks then T100 stock will mean insufficient lean for the SS and likely harder than normal CS deployments.
2. Be sure to review the proper CS lifting technique (many YouTube Videos showing it with much bigger bikes than the Bonneville). The real trick is not to try pushing/pulling bike rearwards onto stand, but to simply pull straight up with the right hand holding the lowest frame rail (I use the lower pillion foot peg rail) and knee bent while stepping on the CS arm. Pushing straight down with the knee, taking the load with the right hand/arm, she should just pop up.
3. I've had an aftermarket CS on my bike (Norman Hyde)...worked out for a while but ultimately the spring got a bit bent out of shape and the CS tended to flop around. The Triumph version is a much better design with the goofy looking "C" bracket but it does the job much better.

On similar springs, I have put pennies (or washers) between the coil turns which makes it longer.
We've done away with pennies in Canada, so we'd need to use nickels/dimes/quarters/loonies/dub-loonies....this would sure get expensive fast!
