Today I took my bike in for scheduled service and was given a Moto Guzzi Breva 1100 to ride while my bike is in te shop. I didn't think much of it because I'm used to this kind of service. Now I am wondering if this is typical of all Triumph dealers?

My dealer will lend me something awful (old GS500 last time), if I book it in advance - except the time before last time when they 'forgot' and didn't have anything available so I had to reschedule the service! You can imagine that I am not too impressed, particularly when a guy who was clearly a friend of the boss walked out with a Speed Triple on the same day! :(

Interestingly, the Triumph customer satisfaction survey that I received after 12 months of ownership, asks if the dealer offers a Triumph. It seems beyond obvious that they should, for marketing reasons apart from anything else, so I wonder if that is what Triumph expects from its dealers.

I can imagine that if my dealer were to lend me a 2007 Tiger he *might* make another sale with the ST as px.

Calmoto always gives me a loaner...usually a BMW R1150R. Not much of a bike in my opinion. The power band is so close to the rev limiter it is pointless. Always nice to be able to ride home or elsewhere while my bike is in getting a tune up.

I plan to start doing my own service work now though. Have the tuneboy and the service manual. Am currently having a friend fabricate the valve adjusting tool so I don't have to remove the cams to do valve jobs.

My dealer will if pressed, they always say, "Don't tell anyone!" I live 45 minutes away and have no one to ferry me around, appreciate the loaner. Besides, they know I'd take it elsewhere without the use of a loaner.

The dealer I bought my bike from offers loan bikes - at a price. $20 per day and you have to sign an insurance agreement to pay a $2,000 excess should the motorcycle 'be damaged in any way'. The loaner bike is a GS500. Better than getting the bus? Not sure really...

That deal is a little scary. I would turn down a loaner under those terms. I understand the dealer wanting to be reimbursed for their loss, but to add and extra $2000 in pretty cheap. Not trying to make you feel bad, but my dealer just tossed me the keys to the loaner and said they would call when my bike is ready.

That's pretty common (to my knowledge) in my area. Even a test ride ties you in to a $3K excess if you drop it...

$2K for damaging a GS500. You could take heaps of buses for $2K

My Toowoomba dealer doesn't do loaners BTW

Yes, got to love insurance companies and their lawyers :hammer:
I don't take loaners or do test rides under those conditions, I take my bike to a mechanic who knows what he's doing and either hang around while he does the work or get a cab back home. I often wonder if anyone has actually been stung for that excess charge...

Mine will give a loaner if there's one available - hard to book though

The prev owners charged $15 a day unless it was a real rat bike. The new owners Team Moto haven't charged but won't lend demos all day and don't have much of a fleet to lend....

p.s. all have the std for Oz $2K excess if you bin it.

I got to take a Rocket 3 out once as a loaner. Generally I don't need or require one though.

More importantly, how was the Guzzi ?

Good question! I like the new Guzzi's my only concern is I do a lot of k's on a variety of roads, and whether a small niche manufacturer's bike would be up to that.

How was the Rocket? Something you'd consider for boulevarde cruising or not at all?

The dealership I bought mine from has given me a demo if it was going to be a while until it was done. Gave me a Thruxton to ride to breakfast when they were doing some recalls on my bike.

Yes my dealer " Windy Corner" of Barwell near Hinckley Leicester always offers me a courtesy bike while mine is being serviced and its always a triumph. I have had a Boneville and a Tiger.
It's not a surprise he has won the triumph dealership of the year 2 years running.

Cheers

Guys,
once again down here is little old backward Tassie we have a dealer still believes in that silly old thing called good old fashioned service.

Last time I had some work done I had the choice of either a rocket, a 675 or a Truxton to take for as long as I wanted. I live 35km from Hobart and there has never been a problem with taking any of the dealer bikes for the day with fuel tank of fuel. In fact when I was looking at buying the 05 Sprint, Motorworks gave me the bike for the day to try out on the east coast road.

Motor works is a small family run dealership and both Larry & Deb are good people. Once a year they have a Triumph gear night where they put on some great Tassie tucker and beers. Milton is the head mechanic and is one of the best bike spannermen in the business although he is a grumpy*****, but knows his stuff. Larry also keeps a close eye on the recalls and if there are any problems he is straight on it without any hassles and lets his customers straight away.

All in all, dealing with Motorworks has always been a good experience, and I will always keep going back to them.

In my opinion the Breva 1100 is a well sorted chassis in need of a real motor.

The riding position is more relaxed than the '00 S3 I had, but the pegs are high enough to allow for agressive cornering with out dragging anything. The Brembo golds did a fine job of stopping the bike. My biggest complaint on the ergos was the horn button and blinker button are reversed from my Sprint. Every time I went to cancel the blinker I would honk the horn.

The Guzzi's engine had about as much appeal as a tractor motor. The low end torque was great, but the engine did not wind up very quickly. Also, at about 5000 rpm the vibes through the bars drove me nuts. It took me a bit to get used to how the engine layout torques the bike to the right when you blip the throttle. It was a very strange feeling when I would blip the throttle before a downshift and the bike would lean itself to the right.

Everyone at work that came out to see the Breva really liked how it looked.

I understand Guzzi is putting a new 1200cc motor in this bike so the '07s might be more fun.
