DIY mega soft clutch!

Must be a sailor...this is a typical 2:1 purchase setup, though sailors don't use bike chains and even cables are rare on sail boats.

Nice work!
Seems like this could be slimmed down to a lighter/cleaner setup using a small turning block (sail-slang for pulley) used for wire (slang for cable ;-)

This would be more amenable to those of use with naked bikes where the clutch arm is in plain site (I'm looking at you, T100 bonnevilles!)

It would really help me on my stop & go commuting rides!

If the pulley acts as a turning block, with cable wrapping around about 180 degrees, one end from clutch lever, other anchored to something, then when clutch lever is pulled, the pulley will be moved. If pulley body is fixed to the clutch lever on engine casing, then it will operate the clutch at a 2:1 mechanical advantage...meaning it will experience two units of force for every one unit applied at handlebar lever. Also If bar lever gives 1 inch of cable pull, that means the pulley (and thus the engine clutch lever) will move 1/2 an inch. This because the cable is wrapped around pulley, with one end fix mounted, effectively making pulley behave like two cables are pulling it, each with the same amount of force.
As a sailor I have rigged up similar pulleys. Works very well.
