I’m not a group guy myself (never a corporate ”team” guy either, lol), but for me it’s a good cause (awareness for prostate cancer research and men’s mental health), and it’s co-sponsored by Triumph. They say they’ve raised over $37 million dollars, in 121 countries, (begun in Australia). I’m on board for that.

The only time I have ridden was 2022 in Rhinebeck, NY. As we pulled in to register, event volunteers would direct motorcycles to the appropriate location based on the motorcycle. Since it is primarily for vintage or vintage styled motorcycles, those type were staged to lead the procession. Since Triumph is a sponsor, all Triumphs were in that group as well. We rode as one large group. There were police waiting at intersections to stop traffic and keep us from getting split up. It was a very nice ride over country roads and through some small towns. Everyone near me rode as they should and I witnessed no jerks, idiots or incompetents. A really nice ride. Lots of waves from people along the route.

The ride returned to the fairgrounds it where it started for some food, pictures and bs. A very well planned event. I will do it again.

I did it once in 2016 when I had my Royal Enfield (please don’t hate me 😂) and it was fun. I want to go again with the Bonnie.
I have two Royal Enfield 650's, a '22 Interceptor and a '23 Continental GT. I will almost certainly ride my Interceptor 650 next May 21 when it's held...

And if not the Int 650 for some reason, it will be the GT...

Both are very appropriately 'retro' machines and so are, as far modern bikes go, perfectly suited for the DGR event.

I make no apologies for using either RE bike, as my Triumph Rocket 3R just wouldn't be quite 'right' for the job in this case.

I'm thinking of getting one later, so with no BS what is your opinion of the Interceptor ?
Obviously having 2 RE bikes means that you like them and I know that this is aTriumph riders site but it would be good to know your opinion for every day riding etc please.

When I rode the DGR last year on my Janus 250, I was staged just ahead of a Rocket. As we were mounting up, I turned to the kid riding it and told him to try to keep up. He couldn't. :) Much of the route was over narrow, twisty country roads and he clearly wasn't experienced on that motorcycle. The Janus is like a bicycle. On any other type road, I'd have been holding everyone up.

Very nice! One of the Janus bikes would be visually perfect for the DGR.

I wouldn't be very comfortable using my Rocket 3 for a DGR event, though as a contributor to their cause, I suppose it would be better than not being able to ride anything.

Reminds me of times I've been left behind on twisty bits by kids with no fear on 125s.

While the St. Louis DGR chapter is pretty generous of the bike’s they’ll allow (one guy had a new Harley Street Glide the first year I rode), they frown upon sport bikes. At least newer ones: there’s a regular STL DGR rider who has some sort of rare 25+ year-old Ducati Sport he shows up on every year. But if someone pulled up on a new Panigale V4, I’m pretty sure they’d be asked to leave.

It's official.

I've registered as a rider for the Sioux Falls DGR in May.

My bike will be my '22 Royal Enfield Interceptor 650.

This will probably be my helmet, goggle, and facemask or neck gaiter 'ensemble'...
Sleeve Helmet Sports gear Personal protective equipment Tints and shades

Not sure about the balance of my...'costume', but brown leather knee-high equestrian riding booties and khaki trousers aren't out of the question, nor is an English brown tweed jacket.

I haven’t been able to actually wear tweed yet because it’s normally been way too damn hot here!

It definitely could be too warm for a tweed jacket, so I might just go the white oxford shirt and vest 'route'.

I found some black and white checkerboard neckties online, so that might be a nice touch, and would go with the half-helmet very nicely.

My wife thinks it's all pretty silly, and that I just want an excuse to do some motorcycle 'cosplay', and she's probably right, but at least it's not in the direction of 'Weekend Pirate' like we see here every year by the many thousands during the Sturgis Rally.

I always have the choice of doing the vintage 'Cafe Racer Rocker Guy' instead, and riding my Continental GT rather than the Interceptor. Just to be authentic, maybe I could start a simulated, carefully choreographed 'rumble' with the Vespa 'Mods' who show up?

Nah, that wouldn't work, I own a Vespa myself.
