Hi

Can anyone tell me at what temperature the cooling fan should kick in on a 2004 RS? I seem to remember it was in the low 90s but I just dug the bike out today after weeks/months of not using it and by 101C the fan had still not come on. Before I start trawling old threads about non-functioning fans, it would be good if someone could actually remind me when it SHOULD come one!

Ta!

Hi,
My RS 2004 comes on at 103. It switches off again when its colled to about 100 (although I would quite like it to come on earlier as the engine does seem a bit rougher at that temp).

There are adjustable fan controllers available over here. Check these sites for ideas:

A lot of people over on the Yamaha FZ1 site use them.

Thanks Matt. I thought mine used to come on a bit under 100 but I could be wrong. I don't really want to leave it idling to see if it comes on. Maybe I'll let it get to 110...

103 is the typical Triumph number for most OEM tunes I've looked at

You can change the setpoints with Tuneboy if you have a desire.
I just looked up stock tune to see what the set-points are: on all the Sprints (& Speed Triple) of that generation, the 'on' temp is 103 and the 'off is only one degree less at 102!!!

Do the RS's have a digital read out for the temp? My ST just has a needle and no numbers.

I figured as much Ken, I honestly just assumed that it came on when it came on and never worried about it until it didn't come on. Which isn't fun when that happened. Turned out to be a blown fuse, I guess one of my fairing fasteners fell between the fan and jammed it blowing the fuse. All is good now though.
