I went down hard on my motorcycle last Saturday 6.21...I was riding in the mountains near Meadows of Dan VA on Squirrel Spur Road. I was with a group and was coming through a very sharp blind corner(not speeding...20/25 MPH) on an unfamiliar road (if you look at my wreck pics...at the one looking at the curve)...I was looking through the turn at the rock wall and had no clue how sharp the turn was...it just kept getting sharper and sharper. I ended up in the oncoming lane and freaked out fearing that a car was going to come around the corner and hit me so I tried to save it and get back in my lane. When I did my front tire washed out from under me and I ended up going off the other side of the road. I hit the gravel hard and slid into the guardrail. I went down on my right shoulder and I thought I had torn my rotator cuff(later the doc told me it was just severely bruised). I rode the bike down and it got smashed under the rail and I bounced off with my left leg and then hit my head. The bike took most of the hit and is probably toast...I wont be able to tell until I fully recover and tear it down. I have a nasty impact wound on my left leg below the knee from the guardrail. I was wearing all my gear to protect my skin as I always do but I had no impact protection...guardrails hurt. I would have been able to ride the bike home if it werent for the guardrail. I had been riding within my limits and not pushing hard...Ive always preached safety and heard the saying "its not IF your gonna go down but WHEN". Throughout the week I was in a LOT of pain and it got worse over the weekend. I went back to the doc on Sunday fearing I was developing a staph infection...turned out it was a superficial blood clot...so i had that taken care of but I still have to be careful as it can return. The weird thing was that 20 mins after my crash one of my friends (that was riding with a different group) crashed in the same curve. He hit some gravel and it put him out in front of an oncoming car so he had no choice but to run off the road. His bike came to rest(upright and never fell over) against the guardrail. He went over the guardrail, broke his leg, punctured his hip and had to be airlifted to Baptist Hospital where he spent the week getting pins in his leg and stitched up. So I feel very fortunate to have walked away like I did. Its been a very eventful week.

Dang man, that stinks! Hope you heal quickly. Bikes can be repaired or replaced; you only get one body though.

I know the area you were riding (although not that particular road). Some great riding up there. I've been planning to take the Daytona up in southern VA this weekend.

Heal up,

Will

Sorry to hear about your crash. Take it easy and let everything heal. Good gear, why doesn't everybody use?

that sucks

Oh man that sucks. I went down on my T509 about 4 weeks ago turning onto a gravel road at about the same speed. Now I'm thanking God there wasn't a guard rail there. I also came down on my shoulder, how is your rotator cuff coming along? I'm starting to wonder if I did some permanent damage seeing as it's been 4 weeks and there's still some minor pain.

Sorry to hear about your crash. But at least you lived to see another day and you'll be able to ride again. Sorry to hear about your friend too. Hope you heal up quickly and get back on the road as soon as possible. Good luck with the repairs to your self and the bike!

Cheers
