just did some maintenence inside the gear box and after putting everyting back together i noticed a good half inch extra slack in the clutch cable...after looking around a bit i realized it seemed to be that the clutch operating arm either didn't have enough "spring" to recoil the cable back out/keep tension .......OR maybe the clutch cable itself was sticking(doubtful)..i am planning on tackling it agin in the AM when i can see, but figured i'd post tonight to see if anyone had some friendly advice?

thanks in advance

On some models there is a ball bearing at the end of the clutch push rod that runs up through the centre of the mainshaft. If you have dropped/lost that it will cause a similar symptom, followed by rapid wear of the central adjusting nut on the clutch.

Yeah, either that, (the ball sits in the inside of the clutch pressure plate) or you have not put the gear box back together correctly.
