Ozzie's:

Is the expression "Tall poppy" common and from Australia?

Years ago I played golf with a fellow from Sydney who referred to Greg Norman as a bit of a "tall poppy."
Seemingly the tall poppy in the garden gets brought down a peg...

Correct?

Tba, I think that expression is from Oz and your analogy is correct.

Too big for their boots is another that you'd recognise.

Most Aussie's hope for the under dog to do well but when a person gets there through sheer grit and determination the "tall poppy" has to be brought back to earth.

A strange country we live in is Oz !! :-D

mnrider, come on down.

All you need is a sense of humour, a laid back attitude and your bathers/cossies/togs.

You may have to look that one up!!

Very interesting article, but I still need some help 'translating' the following news article:

Punter falls chasing crazy run
January 03, 2007 03:43pm

ENGLAND captain Andrew Flintoff was robbed of a century as his faltering tail once again collapsed this morning at the SCG, while Shane Warne claimed Monty Panesar as his 1000th international victim.

So 1000 sprinting, insane monkeymen are losing $100 each to some criminal named Shane Warne? Did I get that right? And why is there a picture of a guy in a hockey helmet swinging a chopped off oar?

Ah! So you thing that's weird?

You better put yourself at stick if you come to Portugal. You will not want to make a racing mackerel figurine of yourself. And don't forget to keep one eye on the gipsy and the other on the donkey!

:-D
