Hi again lads,

Does anybody have any tips or home made remedies for removing chrome from my 71' t120r wheel hubs.

Why would anybody chrome alloy hubs when pollished up, they look better than chrome in my opinion and they dont flake!!

Ive spoken to a local sand blaster who reckons if he blasts them, the finish would be very rough. Same as when you get a frame blasted. Therefore i may have to get them bead blasted after before polishing.

Another guy told me about a possible weak acid bath??? or even an electroplated to reverse the process??

Ive just got back the frame from the chemical strippers to remove the powder coating....another look im not fond of............oh the fun of basket cases and my project looks like taking another twist.



The funny thing is i have never even ridden a triumph yet!!!

I would either look for a basket case (cheap) and use those hubs. Or go to a swapmeet (autojumble?) and look for a couple of used wheels hubs. 71/72 wheels have never been high demand or high dollar items. Another thought is to put a T140 disc on the front like a 73/75 T120/T140

A reputable chrome plating shop can remove chrome, no problem.
The previous owner had chromed the primary cover of my '79. There was no local shop and so I sent it to :

They stripped the chrome off that item and stripped & re-chromed my carrier rack. Total cost with shipping...$150.
Good guys & very professional.

I'm with you Bultaco... polished aluminum has 'form follows function' class... chromed aluminum is just glitz... mostly appreciated by those who wear 'do-rags'.

Now which of those Bultacos did you ride? Mine were 1971 Lobito 175, 1973 Pursang 250 and 1975 Sherpa T-350. Had some Montesas too... '73 Capra 125, '74 Cota 247, Mini-Cota for my son & the best of all...'76 Enduro 250.

G'day,

yeah i didnt mention my primary is chromed too. That has to be de-chromed as well. I'm Currently adding another $150 to the budget.

As for the Bullies, i still regularly race the pursang in pre 70 events (MX & dirt track) along with the slider and a 125. My dad still races as well and has been doing so since the early 70's and he has quite a collection of bultaco's. I keep telling him to quit racing and become my full time mechanic but the ol' bastard wont give up and gives me a run for my money. Its all good fun. Ill post some pics when i find out how to.

That Red Pursand 250 is IDENTICAL to one I had in the late 70s / early 80s. Never shgould have sold it!

You can remove it yourself, with some battery acid, water, a plastic tub, and a car battery backed up by a charger. The info should be on the web in car restoration sites or similar.
