Hi... Another little problem with my new acquisition.... The bike does not have a choke cable fitted. Needless to say I'm going to need one so will have to try to source one from somewhere, and I believe that it's a different cable to the older bikes? Grateful if someone can point me in the right direction of a supplier - the local Triumph dealer doesn't seem to know too much about the older bikes.....

Now is it much of a job to fit? Will the tank have to come off? Any specialist tools/knowledge required?

As always mucho grateful for any helpful advice.

You'll need to take the tank off. Also getting the cable back in is no problem and fairly easy. I just did mine. Good luck.

Well I did the job yesterday and reassembling the switchgear is a real lady parts of a job. Got it done eventually but I rather suspect I have something missing at the carb end... I hooked up the inner cable to the choke slide OK but there doesn't appear to be a fixed point anywhere to accept the outer cable... so when the lever is moved the entire choke cable moves, not just the inner, and effectively the choke doesn't work.

Can anyone point me to a diagram anywhere online that shows the choke/carbs setup so I can see what's missing?

Thanks in advance...

For the Keihins, there is a little triangular "bracket" that goes under one of the carb top cover screws to hold the end of the outer cable. See attached. Probably similar for the Mikunis. Check the parts fiche at BikeBandit or similar.

Thanks for that! That's the doohickey I need. I'll see if I can get one.... knowing my luck it will be discontinued and I'll have to fabricate something that heath Robinson would have been proud of....

And an update... Ordered the part from World of Triumph at about £14 including postage and VAT. Here's hoping!

When the bracket arrives, be advised that the carb top screw that goes with the bracket is just a bit longer to compensate for the thickness of the bracket. So either locate and use the longer screw, or source one from your local hardware vendor lest ye not have quite enough thread in the carb body and strip it!
