I seen some pictures of Bonnevilles without chain gaurds. Do I need to keep mine on, or can I get rid of it?

Suggest you keep it unless you bike is mostly for show. Kind of like and AR 16 with collapsable stock..Makes for good "picture taking" though.

Chain guards keep the bike cleaner and prolong chain life.

 

[Normandy]

The primary purpose is to keep your girlfriends jeans out of the chain. Turf it if you ride solo.
