ver 3500 rpm would clear up and be OK.The weather was foggy and around zero degrees.Does this sound like the symptoms to expect?One extra thought,switched off at work,clocked in,then restarted after no more than two minutes,the bike ran absolutely fine. Idled properly and revved up correctlyThat sounds exactly like what happened to my Thunderbird a few years back. I was riding through the Coastal Mountains in the western USA and when I was at a low elevation, it was raining heavily; well, as I started gaining elevation, all that rain changed to snow and about 5 minutes into the snow, my engine started running very rough, just like you described.
I had to turn around and go back due to the snow buildup on the road and the fear that the motorcycle was going to freeze up...when I got lower down the mountains, the engine came back. I'm sure it was the carbs icing up.
