am looking for a "dry bag" to get me through until I can splurge on a givi. Anybody have an opinion on this bag or any others? Thanks in advance.

Read the recent "Bestem" thread below for another option.

I have the small version of this Ortleib Dry Bag for extended tours, it's a very high quality bag, totally waterproof and very rugged. The only downside to the dry bags is access- they are one compartment so stuff needs to be packed in an organized fashion to be kept separated. Use some zip lock bags inside and this is a great setup.

I use the Ventura Bike rack system. It is very flexible, has multiple backs and racks that interchange.
I have been using a bag I bought for sailing gear, I wear it like a rucksack is perfectly dry and was not expensive. You might like to look on sailing sites for a suitable bag.

Good luck
