Sorry your right. CPS stands for "Crank Position sensor", not "Cam Position Sensor".

About where is it located on the right side ?

The early models had a camshaft sensor in the cam cover right in front of the #2 and #3 coils. If I remember right, they were eliminated in the 2001 model year. What are you working on a 1999 or 2000 model?

Mine is a 2002 955i which should have the 1050 motor.

My brother has a 2005 Sprint ST, which I believe has basically the same motor.

He is having a starting issue: The bike cranks but won't start or even fire. You bump it in gear and rotate the motor just the slitest bit, it will start fine.

My thinking is the CPS is bad.

But I can't locate it on either bike ...... LOL

Is the check engine light on, and if so is it giving you any codes? Starting after rotating the motor sounds like something mechanical. The crank position sensor is a stationary coil that is triggered by the reluctor bolted onto the crank. Do you see that raised portion on the clutch cover behind the small round cover with the hex in the middle? That raised portion is there to make room for the crank sensor. If you remove that cover to check it, be sure to check your valve clearances and cam timing.

My '98 has the sensor but it's not connected to the harness. Never was. Probably there to fill in the hole in the cam cover.
