Can anyone help me with the Brembo type reference for the front brake calipers pictured. They were standard fitment on 1050 S3 from '05 - '10 and are also used by BMW on their S1000 range. They are a four piston, four pad unit, come in silver, gold or black finish. I can't find them listed in any Brembo catalogue listing and wonder if they were only ever supplied as OEM.

They are not M50 nor are they M40.

I am following this and also curious. I am trying to track down piston diameter without taking my bike apart.

If I figure out which model these brakes are I will post an update.

08-10 maybe, but 05-07 used Nissin calipers.

Hey Terry, I have been searching a bit and didn't come up with much on the calipers. Here are two links I found with the most useful information:

It isn't much and I am still curious as to the piston OD. I am close to pulling my wheels as I need to replace the tires I will measure them for sure.

What info are you looking for specifically on the calipers, just what model Brembo consideres them or?

We often see reference to Brembo M40, M50. and now Stylema calipers. I just wanted to know what name or ref Brembo use for the 4 piston/4 pad calipers used on Speed Triples from late '07 - '10. I think it's M4 but none of the the M4s that feature in Brembo websites seem to have 4 separate pads.

If you look at the attached catalog (it's for 2010, I can't find anything later) you'll see that these calipers were used on a whole range of bikes. They're listed as M478Z04. Is that the caliper ref and does that then mean they are M4 calipers or is that the pad ref number?

It looked like all the calipers on that page you referenced were Monoblock style unless I missed something. The Calipers on the '08-'10 Speed Triples are a two piece design.

I also own a '14 Aprilia Tuono and stumbled on this in the for sale section of that forum last night:

These look exactly like the front calipers on my '09 Speed Triple. The color is the only difference I see.

This was the clue I needed so I searched for the P34 Calipers and came up with this:

Scroll down to where they give the description of the "P4.30/34" calipers. They talk about how they are a 2 piece caliper with 30 and 34 mm pistons.

I have my bike apart as I am putting fresh rubber on it and pulled the pads as I am going to give the calipers a nice cleaning before re-assembly. I measured the pistons and can confirm that 2 of the pistons are 34mm and the other 2 are 30mm on each caliper.

I have heard the Brembo M4, with 100mm spacing is an upgrade from these calipers and that would make sense as the M4 is a monoblock design.

I have been running a Brembo RCS19 Master for several years and have also heard the RCS19 should be used with 34mm pistons and the RCS17 should be used for 30mm pistons. The RCS19 has an adjustment from 20-18 and I have mine adjusted in the middle at 19 and to me this is the sweet spot.

Yes, the gold coloured Aprilia calipers you found for sale are the exact same as the '08-'10 Speed Triples. Although the seller refers to them as a 'P34 caliper set' the nomenclature P34 is actually the Brembo type ref for the rear caliper only. Look here:

I looked at your second link and scrolled down to where they give the description of the "P4.30/34" calipers. I note they actually refer to 'P4.30/34 line" suggesting the nomenclature applies to a range of calipers.

If you look again at the AMSDucati link and scroll to the bottom you'll see what appears to be exactly the same caliper as ours but with 4 x 34mm pistons:

These are referenced Brembo 100mm P4/34 so I think you're correct in referring to ours as P4.30/34.

I didn't realise the '08-'10 Speed Triple had different sized (30 and 34mm) pistons so thank you for sharing that information. Can you recall if the pads are all the same or are they different as well?

I can confirm all the pads are the same size on both calipers even with the 30 and 34mm pistons.

Now, since we are on this Brembo brake topic. Do you have any idea if a Brembo rear brake can be fitted to the Speed Triple '08-10?

Ah, you've been seduced by the Brembo matched set from your earlier post haven't you? I have to admit the set looks good.

I'm not aware of anything that'll just bolt up. Maybe if you had a motorcycle wrecker nearby you could 'borrow' a few until you find one that fits.

Yessir! I have been thinking about it. Gold matching front and rear calipers would look nice and it would be sweet to have a Brembo rear caliper.

I will see what I can find out.
