I am new to this forum today and am in the market for a Speed Triple. I have read most of the forums, but was unable locate a search function to find what year is rated best. I like the style of the 05-07 and would rather buy that one, new or used. The best I have found so far is a new 06 black for 9499.00 OTD in California. Is that a good price???

Thanks for any imput,
Paul

You do realized that for only a few dollars more you can get an 07 which has a few upgrades. I bought mine in August, and kind of wished I waited, but I had to have it then and don't regret buying an 06.

+1
I also purchased a 2006 in Aug. after learning that it might be Jan/Feb before the 07's started hitting the dealer floors. The 2 closest dealers to me don't have them yet. The 2007 have 2nd generation ECU's with (reported) shorter crank times.....I'm not sure what else they offer over the earlier models.

Oh, I was told that the 2006 was the same as the 2007. The best I can do on an 07 is 10,000 OTD. Is this a good price in California??

$9500 OTD sounds great to me. I wish I could have got that deal earlier this year. The upgrades on the 07 are so minor that I wouldnt pay extra for it. Roulette Green and a larger ECU with a slightly different exhaust shield I believe.
Go for it...thats a good price.

The upgraded ECU for the 07 is a plus, but there is one minus for the new bike: That ugly heat shield is there to disguise the catalytic converter that they've installed in the split.

If you figure to install an aftermarket half system then I say go with the 07. Otherwise it makes little difference, unless you have a favorite color.

Supposedly the 07 has the coated caliper pistons in the brakes as well. A possible plus.

Don't think about it too much, just buy what you want. You can't go wrong with a Speed Triple!

It's more than just the small upgrade, it's the first years depreciation that's more of a consideration at this point. If you plan on owing this motorcycle for more than 6 years than get the 06. If you like everyone else and get something new about ever 3 years get the 07. It will make a difference when you sell. You live in Cali so the could start issue might not make a big difference to you anyway.

So the 2006 Triples do not have cat's, and the 2007 come equipted as stock with them?? If that is the case maybe the 06 would be a better bike to get then.

Forget about cats. You're gonna rip out the exhaust anyhow and change it with a full system Zard or Arrows. An M4 at the least.
Cold starting issues are a non event with my 06, provided you have the right tune in the bike.

Haa, my wife says if I buy the bike it will have to stay stock until Christmas next year. So, with the replies I have so far, seems like the 06 new is the best way to go since the 07 does not have any significant upgrades.

The 06 has a 'precat' that is welded into the midpipe. It can be removed and then the holes (from removal) welded back up, providing a more freely flowing exhaust, which probably requires a new tune download as well. I intend to remove mine...soon as I get some exhaust and a Tuneboy.

Some guidance on precat removal HERE!

Both the 05 and 06 have the pre-cat, and I assume that the 07 does too. I've removed mine but I can't give a report on it yet. The bike's still in pieces for a week or so. I'm waiting on the SAI blockoff plates.

It's a pretty easy project, assuming you can get the holes welded up. Any local welding shop should be able to help you with that for a couple of $.

1050 being 'the best' S3 is debateable. However, it IS an excellent bike.

That price doesn't sound bad at all. My dealer wanted $9,999 for the bike and $2,000 in dealer's fees. (to include the shipping from the factory) I bought mine used for $8,000, had some miles on it, but runs fine and the guy I bought it from is a riding buddy now as well. Get whichever one you want, if you go with the 06 you might just get to have a Blue one :-D

Are there any other suggestions of earlier models that are better that the current model?? Getting an older used one is fine by me as long as it is clean with a clear title.

My pal has an 04 model; mine is an 05. We rode a few thousand miles together in Germany over the summer and can say that unless you really push hard there is not a massive difference between the bikes. A few BHP right across the range.
For me its the look of the 1050 that does it for me.

With a little tuning, a 955i can be just as quick as a 1050 except you'll have the extra cash to buy a full ohlins USD fork swap, Zard, and a bunch of other bits you wouldn't have on a brand new 1050.

Try and find a new or used 02-04 955i. Most can be had for under $6k and then you can spend the extra 4k you saved on performance accessories. I think Racecomp's turbo is around 3k...

Definately concur. Astetically, it's definately not the best IMO. Based on the 2 times I've riden a 1050, the engine has more life than my 955 but, to me it, wasn't significant enough to warrant getting the new model. If Triumph restyles the bike with a more pleasing rear, I'll be ready to plump down my stack of food stamps on a purchase.

Can't go wrong with buying any year though. As for the 1050, go with the newest model you can afford. I hear 07 haves the bugs of the 05 sorted.
