Englishlloyed,

I have the black ceramic coated Predators. They are plenty loud, with a good throaty rumble. My performance has improved with them and they look great in my opinion.

I have Staintunes and I like them alot but they are expensive, $750.00 but they all stainless steel and look flawless, like the rest of the bike so it was worth it to me but I know I'll be pissed if I crash these pipes...if I had to replace them on a budget I would suggest checking Ebay for some low cost NEW pipes under $200.00 for brand new chrome ones that look very close to the stock Thruxton pipes but are louder...someguys say the low cost ones are real loud but then they repacked the nonexistant stuffing and the sound mellowed out...they are repackable and you can't beat that price unless you find a used pair. The Triumph off road = (TOR) pipes are good too but are steel like the low cost ones. The stock pipes on any new motorcycle are just too plugged up thanks to all the motor vehicle laws, even the off road race bikes are plugged up.
If you change pipes and If you do nothing else you can run the stock 110 main jets but it runs better with a rejet and that only cost $5.00 to change jets yourself and you can do it yourself. I would recommend going to 125 main jets with a pipe change AND REMOVE the snorkel on the left side of the airbox since this costs nothing and pops back in should you decide to go back to stock...if you do nothing except pipes a 115 jet is good and either way you will notice the difference. I did 125 on mine and pulled the snorkel off I am very happy with that and I wouldn't change anything past that.

Not sure you can get them in your part of the world but the MADAZ pipes we can get here in OZ are pure quality, stainless and sound way cool, price is way cheaper than the staintunes to. Thunder bikes in N.Z. make some nice pipes at a good price, stainless and very good quality, i have not seen there 2 into 1 in the flesh but have heard good reports.

ride on....

I bought the J.C. Whitney Dunstall copies for my 1972 Norton Commando "S". Quality is fair. Loud-yes-after 1 year (2500 miles) they started to rust out. Price is right on. (bikes are garaged in dry California). The Staytuned silencers for the Commando are just perfect IMHO. Pricey but you get what you pay for. :-D Both Mother Goose's I have old Dunstalls and Italian Silentiums (I change them out with mood swings Quite-noise) . Quality Stainless that are no longer available :( . These are 30 year old units in primo condition. If you can spring for the big ticket items (mufflers) go with the high end units. This comes from a man who keeps things forever. Hence my big block Roadrunner and my 1948 Studebaker, my 1915 Webley .455, my 1894 Winchester rifle octagon purchased by grand dad in 1906. :-D

I have predators, all stainless, awesome sound and pretty loud. They look flawless and are polished stainless so no rusting, and they have a louver baffle so no repacking.

I think they're around $500, if you want to go cheap get the JC whitney dunstall replicas, if you just run headpipes you will not get enough backpressure.

specialty spares uses those mufflers for the megaphone kit.

long story short, i'll be getting predetors or a high mount set up in the spring. not terrible for $180 though.

Caspian - I have the epco stainless mufflers. I'm very pleased with them after a few thousand miles. They're not too loud, even though they have a little more volume to them now than when I first installed them. The main drawback i see to them is that the baffles can't be removed and rewrapped with fiberglass. So hopefully they will get to a point and "pack out" and stabilize. They are stainless, and very well finished - very good quality that seems like it will last.
I'm a little dissapointed to see that they've upped the price by $100 from when I bought mine in June, though. If you are interested, a visit to epcostainless.com might serve you well. I bought them direct from the manufacturer before any of the online retailers started carrying them. They were a great price at $350, so they are an ok price at $450 and priced in line with the comparable alternatives.

Yeah, i contacted epco and they said $429 which is ten bucks less than newthruxton. I figured that it was worth it just to get them from newthruxton to help support a good parts place for my thrux. I'm glad that you like them. The other guy i know loves his and they sound really good on his bike. What mods do you have? Did you rejet? thanks again.

I have the TORS.
Love the sound, not too loud at tickover, but enough to let folks know you've got a real bike!
On the move they sound brilliant, just how a brit vertical twin should sound.
I just wish they'd been available in black - anyone know if they can be coated / painted?

With epcos i also removed the snorkel, ai, and use a unifilter. I raised the needle with one 0.5mm shim, stock pilots and 125 mains. I can't remember how many turns out on the screws - maybe 3? I still need to get myself to a dyno to check it - it seems to run fine, but I don't know what I'm doing when it comes to carb tuning. I just followed jenk's recommendations and it seems to work... monkey see, monkey do, monkey wrench, monkey ride.

As far as black TORs you can get away with hi-temp black paint as sold at auto parts stores for blocks, headers, etc. from the photos i've seen it looks good, and it always worked on my dirtbikes. or if you've got money burning a hole in your pocket you can get them ceramic coated by jet hot.

The emgos' baffles can be pulled out and wrapped with fiberglass as sold for use in mx mufflers. If you didn't rejet the carbs after installing the emgos, the bike is probably running lean - in effect the mufflers allow more flow, so the carbs are flowing more. but mostly just more air, since the jets are limiting the fuel delivery. A lean mix will burn hotter. You can potentially cause engine damage from running a lean mix for that reason.
