Has anyone used bar end weights with their after market handle bars? If so, what brand and where did you get them? I am interested in getting some for my Bonneville, but want some advice from this post.

Though they're not bar end weights exactly, Rhinomoto makes a set of bar end sliders that reduce vibration and also allow one to use CRG bar end mirrors. Check them out

Hey Bigman,
I know what you mean about the vibrations. I can't ride more than an hour or two before my hands do numb.

I myself want to get a pair of 13-ounce Manic Salamander weights (see road dog's post above) but I prefer weights that bolt on. I have asked Paul Ashman at manic Salamander to design bolt-on weights for our bikes. If you are interested email him at let him know that you would be interested in the weights. He could have something out for us in a few weeks.

BTW, I looked around but I haven't been able to find anything out there that matches the MS 13-ouncers!

Just found this old thread -- thanks everyone! I'll be giving Manic Salamander a call shortly.
If you don't particularly like the appearance of bar end weights, or later decide to switch to bar end mirrors (as I did) you may want to consider a Barsnake. It has worked well for me... much better than plain hollow bars, and as good or slightly better than bar end weights it seems.

Mine's a 2012 Bonneville SE and the first thing I noticed was a complete lack of handlebar vibration, I put it down to the rubber mountings in the handlebar clamps, having changed recently from Japanese 4 cylinders bikes I know all about tingling fingers.

Thanks Road Dog, I'll keep those in mind. Talked with Paul at Manic Salamander yesterday (great guy, very helpful and interesting to chat with) and have some weights on the way.

I'll see if they work for me. Can't say I'm excited to add a pound and a half / almost two pounds to the bars. That'll make the moment of inertia go way up, which may turn steering into a wrestling match. Or it may not, I'll just have to see. Will let y'all know.

Jim,

Interesting. My 2012 Bonnie had handlebar vibes bad enough to make my hands go numb after 10-15 mins. Wrist angle was a problem for me too, so hard to say which effect dominated. Given your experience, I'm led to think it was the wrist angle and weight on my wrists more than the vibrations.

Ok, add me to the Manic Salamander bar-end-weight fan club.

They've removed 75-80% of the vibration in the handlebars on my Speedmaster. I am a happy camper.

Only gripes:
1) while the weights are stainless, the washers are not -- it might take a while but they could rust. 23 cents a pop at the local hardware store fixed that
2) not enough washers! See remedy for (1) above
3) the throttle lock is for crazy people.

Back on the plus side, I will say I was worried about the weight affecting steering. But it doesn't. At least not enough for me to notice.

So -- another recommendation

Also used the MS bar weights on my 04 Thrux. Noticeably reduced the vibrations. From memory I went with the medium weight option. I used a Triumph bar bar end mirror and it fits with the MS bar weights. My throttle side produces the worst vibrations. Have tried all the tricks. Yet to understand the cause other than its related to the throttle movement

I have MS weights on the Flander's barred Scrammy. The vibes were almost unbrearable for long rides until I added the bar end weights - now it's as smooth as my 360* Bonnies ;)
