I think we should ban all new thread - or posts -that rehash the same old material.

Why can't everyone just do a search before posting, and if it's already been said - don't say it again.

Maybe we should have stickies with all the important threads - closed of course - so that people don't say the same sh er stuff time and again.

In fact let's just close the website and just do our research on Wiki!!!

For instance some dumb bunny forget to search the board first and reposted something on waving, when we all know how often that's been covered.

Thank god someone had the foresight to do a search and prove to the worthless poster how many times this had been covered.

Here, for your edification is THE LIST.

Motorcycle Wave
Correct Wave Protocol
Why We Wave At Other Bikers
The new anti-wave
Why most Harley riders don't wave?
OT: why Harley riders don't wave.
The Wave
I got my first "Honk, thumbs up, wave" today.
motorcyclist wave
Why don't they Wave???
The Wave
The Wave

Thanks for whoever took the trouble to make this list, though since they posted it twice on this forum themselves I think they just broke their own rules!

Please don't post about waving again. It really upsets some of the old timers. They don't like it! They've seen it all before.

We've all been newbies at some time or other Haggis !

It's difficult to create an earth shattering thread even for old timers ! There's always a new look about an oil thread ! :p

When you get long in the tooth and the memory is going it's nice to see a re-hash, one day that will happen to you Haggis ! ...and you'll be thankful, it'll all seem like new to you ! :D

....So I take it winter is setting in in Canada and it's tweaking your bunions !

If it's any consolation I'm getting worried about the sun melting the tarmac ! ! ! now that would make a good thread !

Because we all know that the answers never change. Oil never improves. Seat material never changes. Dart screens always buffet the wind no matter how tall you are. Carbs will never be converted to FI. Tire material never improves. and of course a 1600 CC cruiser that does not look like a converted bonneville cafe scrambler cannot possibly do well in the US.

Its a Forum. people come here to be read, improve their knowledge and make social contact. we should embrace the number of people and be happy they still make Triumphs.

:)

Are you wanting to introduce CENSORSHIP?????

Please, not in this case. Annoying as it may be to see regurgitated themes let's not go down this path.

Just testing the waters.:p

The OP is the response I've seen recently on a number of posts. I just pumped it up a bit!:D

I believe that a board like this is an ongoing conversation not an encyclopedia. It's OK for new people to bring up old topics! In fact, it's more than OK - it's part of the reason why we're here.

Trekr, Fishslayer, and bovefrankj I agree with you!

Hear hear... ban all new threads - or posts -that rehash the same old material. Ban the member that has the audacity to post such redundant nonsense. Furthermore, if a member dares to use the search function to find an old thread that covers the material they are questioning, they should know better than to resurrect said old thread. If they choose to post to that thread, the thread should be labeled "Zombie Thread" or deleted. The member should then be banned as well, for committing such a rookie mistake.

(I love sarcasm. :D)

Old threads

I love that by either re-invigorating old threads, or else (naughty) posting as if it is an 'original' when merely it is a re-post, is just par for the course.

Saves me searching all the time anyway......;):D

I have a suggestion. If it upsets you so much to see a thread that has been covered before, or if you see it is about a subject which you are obviously an expert about and don't wish to participate, then how about............just don't read it.
Kind of on the same pricipal as pornography. If it offends you, then don't buy the magazine!
Lots of new people here that don't have the wisdom to do a search, or maybe they have somthing new to offer, or just maybe they are lonely and want to talk to someone here.

Well now, you see, that would be too easy for some people.

+1. There are lots of threads I don't bother to open because I just don't want to see the same ol' crap again, but at least they are there and the OP gets some sort of response (if they're lucky). The search function can be a bit of a hassle as well. If you are relatively unfamiliar with the technical aspects of your question, the data you enter into your search may yield absolute crap.

Wow, I said "crap" twice.

also, due to software or database limitations, forums often can't index smaller words like "AI". you can miss quite a few threads on "air intake" removal if you can't search for "AI".

I agree with the past few folks. Personally, and maybe I am one of the idiots, but I have searched for several things and I have not found what I was looking for.

And that whole "if you don't like it, don't read it" comment is pure genius.;)

It would seem that if someone gets so angry about a little thread on something that's been covered before.... then that person needs to take a little time to examine and take part of the better things in life.... there are way bigger fish to fry than getting your panties all tied up because someone new to the forum has posted another thread about jel seats.

For me, today, its slow cooking a brisket and finishing off a 12 pack with a friend. What the hell am I even doing here?

Just my point of view.

I recently posted a new version of the "You May Be A Poser If..." thread. I am very happy to report that the responses were totally new and totally funny. If I offended anyone I'm sorry, but you will probably get over it. I really enjoyed the new responses and the vitality of the new folks on the forum. Perhaps some folks can understand that opinions change according to the people who give them. In short, new ideas come with new people. I like that premise.

This thread needs a leg up

Just a quick tuppence worth to get this thread to the top of the queue as it is losing interest and in danger of falling off the home page.

Must be difficult being a moderator having to deal with all that repetition repetition.

Serious time now.

If anybody thinks we rehash too many subject or threads, just go and check out http://www.hdforums.com/forum/index.php , especially the Sportster froums. Now THAT is what you call rehashing!

Sorry repetition again

I apologise but I would like to promote this back to the top again again as I think it important that this thread is seen again as it is important that we continue to provide a forum for all Triumph owners to share views and experiences.

I remind myself in so doing that in buying a Hinckley Triumph I was afforded the opportunity to join RAT and therefore I wish to share in that wider knowledge sharing that RAT is supposed to provide.

If that is not what is intended, I resign.
