I just had very sad news this afternoon via email. My dealer just emailed me the Serial number of my recently purchased 2007 T100 that I am taking delivery in March.

As I quickly counted over (and then double checked my count) over 11 digits, it was a "T" AAAHHHHHH!!!!!! Made in Thailand.

Putting a micrometer on the offending "T" I am confident with some searching I can find the appropriate "J" metal punch with the correct cap height and font to change the "T" to a "J". Hmmmmmmmm..... Maybe I can Market these.

All in jest. It matters not who assembles it, as long as their wife didn't leave them the night before. :hihi:

Tell ya what. If it does end up bothering you, I'll trade bikes with you. ;)

Congrats on the bike. When is your riding season? I got tired of whining when it drops low 30s and bought some cold weather gear. So we can ride year round except for a few days ever so often.

You guys that ride in real cold have my complete respect.

You'll love it (her .... that's the right name for a Bonnie). Quit spending time counting how many places from the right a specific alpha character is located in your VIN/serial number and go run the wheels off this really sweet bike! Have fun.

Thanks for all the great replies to my attempt at humor!

Whoa- The riding season up in Canada (for me at least) starts mid March as soon as the first spring rains have cleaned the road salt off,and ends on Halloween. I used to ride almost year round when the roads were cleared of snow, but over the years the "magic number" for me as far as comfort and enjoyment is 10 degrees C (about 50 degrees F) If it drops much below that I tend not to go out.

In my years of riding my score is one partridge (took it off the shoulder at about 80 kph-----it hurt!), one Porcupine (at night!), one non descrip bird off my visor, and have inhaled various insects, all without too much trauma.

Super Sidecars- With McBride Cycle in Toronto closing it's doors, I started dealing with the boys at Sturgess Cycle in Hamilton and to date it has been a very pleasant experience. Very "down to earth" owners and it has the feel of a real bike shop. Hope to meet up with you in the summer for a ride, you are not far away. :-D

One of these days you guys will figure it out its the first digit of the vin that says what country the bike is assenbled in . that t is the plant or line it was on , could be in the same building or down the street, it means nothing except to the manufacturer, if it has a first digit of S it was made in Great Britian period by law, if the first digit changes then it was made somewhere else. Ed, God love ya.

I owe you a beer or I'll name my next kid's pet after you.

The first digital of my serial number is "S". I'll leave it at that.

If someone tries to tell me otherwise I'll stick my fingers in my ears and sing "Flintstones, meet the Flintstones....."

Actually, the first letter 'S' could also be Poland or Germany. SA through SM are designated United Kingdom. (Semantics really  )

Gray, Congrats on the new Bike no matter where it's from. Hope to see you on the road once things thaw out a bit.

I would only worry about it if there is an emotional attachment to the idea of a British bike actually being made in the UK. Of course I'd share in your feelings right now and would much prefer to have a UK built bike. But from the standpoint of reliability or overall workmanship, you can expect at least as good attentiojn to detail and quality coming out of Thailand, if not better. I just purchased a VERY expensive Nikon digital SLR camera and lens, and they were assembled in THailand.
