i'm just curious if any other owners out there have noticed their paint isn't quite up to 'scratch' (ha ha)

compared to the t3 triple- whose paint was still brilliant after 12 years the ol' s4 seems a bit weak.

main problem area is around the knee cut outs on the tank, i truly can't believe how soft the clearcoat is. i'll polish them out with t-cut but a commute to work and back shows the area getting heavily scratched again.

i've heard a few of the s3 and sprint owners have this problem. i've resorted to stomp grip pads on the knee cut outs to provide some protection and grip.

now i know black is bad for showing up blemishes, and i also believe bikes should be ridden not kept as polished ornaments and won't stay pristine, but this is a bit on the poor side to scratch up that bad.

i also noticed when switching the can over that the stock can has a very small patch of rust showing through. i thought these were stainless, or i they just plated?
reckon i should say anything when its serviced? i'm sure paint is not warranty protected, but i thought the can was....?

rant over! time to ride!

My knees generally wear out the paint on bikes. Worst was a Suzuki that I wore clear through the paint to the metal. Triumph is a whole lot better than that.

I have the 2005 D650 and the clear coat absolutely sucks. If I look at the bike wrong it scuffs......................

I am searching out a shop in my area to repaint it. I could just a new and thicker clear put on, but why not go with an origional colour as well.

You should be ashamed Triumph..........ashamed !!!

yeah, it sure aint the most robust of finishes. fcuk the environment- what about my bike!!!!

got some stomp grip to cover those vunerable areas and provide some grip, but i haven't cut and stuck it on yet, also should be picking up a bagster cover (good 2nd hand price) so i might give that a whirl first.
