hey guys,
i just crashed my 03 S3. warning go VERY easy on the throtle when the tires are stone cold in january. i got about 20 feet from my driveway, rolled on the throtle, not too much, going in a straight line. and within a split second the rear spun out, the bike went down and i decided
it would be a good idea to remove my brand new rizoma bar end mirror with the back of my hand as i flew over the bars.
my hand hit the mirror with such force that it ripped the bar end right out of the f**kin handlebars!!! OUCH!! now my hand is in a cast and i'm looking for new set of handlebars ( along with alot of other stuff!)
which leads me to my question... i've looked into renthal, pro taper, and rizoma bars. all of which are cheaper than OEM bars. which would any of you guys suggest?
i've heard people talk about the pro taper SE bars but in their catalog they are showing them with that ugly moto x crossbar thing attached, does it come off?
also heard people talkin about the renthal ulra low bars,
does anyone out their have these, if so how close to original bends are they?
also, anybody have any thoughts on Rizomas? they look like
good quality (their mirrors can take a beating!)
and one more question : what color should i get to go with my green 2003? i was thinking trying black but not sure how it would look (the stock bars are chrome). has anyone replaced bars on a meanie greenie?

any input would be GREATLY appreciated.

ps: any tips on wiping your ass lefty??????
:( :( :( :(

Sorry to hear about your crash. I hope you heal up soon. I did Something Similar a month ago. Also concluded that it was too cold of tires for the throttle position. A lesson definitely learned. I didn't damage my stock bar but I decided to order a Rizoma anyway, mostly because of the bend, which I hope will suit me better.

I have the renthal ultra low bars on my 2001. The bends are exactly the same as stock, they feel no different. You'll need to order the renthal bar ends also because inside diameter on aluminium is smaller then steel.

the pro taper brace comes off

but if you go with those you need to make sure they are 7/8 and not the over sized bars unless you want to do a bit of custom work (new risers) might be some issues with getting the controlls on the bars as well

i have the renthal ultra lows as well but am not using the renthal bar ends, i jused used some rubber plugs from mountain bike grips.

The last couple bikes I've had I installed Bikemaster "superbike" bend bars. They look like stock, but are a tad lower and have less pullback which for me was more comfortable since it reduced the angle of my wrists. They are wide but you can cut them down to length if you want. Paid about 12 bucks for them at the local dealer.

Renthal ultra lows are in fact close to the same bend. They might absorb a little more vibes hard to tell. Purchased mine at the local Cycle Gear for about $69. I have gold on a black S3 and I think they look great. Heal up quickly!

For me the seat of the pants feel was just the opposite. The Ultra Low seems to transmit more vibes to my hands. I suspect this is because the bar is stiffer and does not absorb as much vibes as the rubberlike stocker.

Might also be just because the handlebar position changed in the same go.

I received my Rizomas yesterday. They are almost exactly the same as stock; I couldn't see any significant difference, which surprised me, since I was expecting them to have less bend than stock. Oh well, I will install them and try them out, first non-icy day.

Based on these recommendations, I've also ordered the Bikemaster Superbike bars- the one that came on mine has way too much pullback (the previous owner was a little guy). I'll let you know how it works.

I have the MSR DOMINATOR bars 7/8. The cross bar is removable, they are about the same width but less pull back than stock. I got the Cr mid, but would prefer the low for anbit more over the tank feel.
Nice light bar with no buzz unlike the stock fatties.
A lot cheaper than renthal and the like
