Hi Guys,
my manual for my T140V says the Amal Mk1 carb needle clip position is number 1.
My question is this, is the top groove in the needle number 1 (leanest) or is the lowest groove number 1 (richest)?
Thanks.

Position 1 is the top groove on the needle (leanest position). If you get "pinking" at around 1/2 throttle with this position, try using position 2 for a richer mixture.

Yes Pete has you covered on this. Triumph would have recommended the 1st groove given that at the time leaded high octane fuel was the go.

With modern, lower octane fuels, the middle position may well serve you best. RR
