Reposted due to mysterious deletion of original (I don't think I used any rude words....)

I've taken the air filter out of the airbox on my 2004 and foolishly didn't note which way round it went. I assume it should have the gauze towards the engine and the pleated side towards the incoming air but confirmation would be helpful.

I know this may sound like a silly question but I'd rather ask one of them than do something daft.

BTW after nearly 12,000 miles it looks very clean so I don't think I'll bother replacing it. One advantage of living in a damp climate.

paper to the outside mesh to the engine

I think the bolts are spaced so that you can not put it in back wards but can not be positive

looking at this



you may be able to put it back wrong

Here's another picture which may help, too. It's a bit over exposed, but you can see the pleats if you look carefully. And you can see that the opening is shaped so that the carrier only goes one way round :wink:
