I read in the ride/bike mag that theres a little airbox mod by opening another breather hole. it will make the engine more responsive in the low & mid range,
And I hear fitting a can also increases the bhp.

Is it all true and that easy?

There are at least a couple of ways to do this mod. Both involve opening the air box up, tank off, etc. Once inside you will see a piece of rubber - commonly called a snorkel, it is glued into position. You will see it is designed to funnel air inside the airbox.
One mod involves just pulling the snorkel out and running the bike without it.
A variation of that involves removing the snorkel and opening out the blanked off side with a craft knife or similar. Then simply refit. No need to glue as the ends of the snorlel are designed to " clip " into the side of the airbox.
Apparently this second mod is how the Speed triple breathes as standard. For some reason Triumph restrict the air intake arrangement in the Tiger.
I did mine the first way. Then thinking better of it, changed my mind and refitted the snorkel after opening it up as stated above.

It's hard to tell the exact power gain without putting it on a dyno. I also have the TOR can and tune fitted. With all these mods the bike must be making similar power to the Speedy. Sure feels like it.

Hope this all makes sense.

ps. Bung a K&N or Pipercross air filter in while you are at it.

I took out the snorkel but like JJ am thinking about putting it back in with both sides open. Not sure what the mod actually does except you hear more growl from intake noise (we ain't talking mega changes in noise level). IMO, get a Pipercross if you are going to do this. I am a firm believer in foam over paper or gauze air filters, but that's your decision.

Hey turbo, It's surprisingly easy to do. I must have had my new filter, K & N, a month before I finally ran the tank almost dry and plucked up the courage to go for it. In fact it was so easy that's why I opened her up again a week later to try mod 2.

Like DevilDog I was expecting a bit more induction roar, but to be honest I really can't tell it's any louder. I must be going deaf.

Throw snorkel away! As far as you can. Arrow pipe and KN race filter.

I'd love to get rid of that whistle noise from the intake at slower rpm's. It may go away or not as you go faster but I can't hear it. It's really embarrassing when you tell your friends to stand in the back to hear the cool pipe so they don't hear the whistle up front. LOL I'll try some of these suggestions. Thanks guys. TM
