Cables are tired and worn and I haven't used the choke in 35 years, so if I were to abandon the chokes rather than spring for another set of cables, I imagine that the hole in the top of the carb should be plugged, but do I pull the choke slides out?
That seems like it leaves big voids in the main slides.

You have to remove the chokes from the carbs since you do not have a cable to hold them up. This does not present a problem.

Here in NZ I have never seen a bike fitted with mk1 concentrics stilll running chokes if they are ridden all the time. The only ones so fitted have been the restored bikes that permanently ride around on trailers.
The hole in the slide makes no difference as long as the cable hole is blocked up

Thanks.

I've never used the choke.
When it gets cold enough to use one the oil is too thick to kick her over, so the newer Bird gets ridden.

More parts to put in my storage boxes of "saved" original fittings.

I have never had a choke on mine either, and I ride when it's 20F outside.
