Hi,
forks/ front end.
play when I hold the front tire between my legs and move the handle bars side to side.
Checking my 71 tr6r it feels very solid.
Could this be the steering stem nut is not as tight as it should be? New tapered bearings installed.
You are confused:-

. "steering stem nut is not as tight as it should be" would show as play in the steering head when you grab the stanchions above the sliders and pull them backwards and forwards;

. otoh, assuming "move the handle bars side to side" is actually turning the forks with the 'bars, which top yoke are your working with? '68 650 parts book, the yoke on pages 44/45 or the one on pages 46/47:-

.. if the one on pages 44/45, check the eyebolt nuts aren't loose, the various washers on both eyebolts are assembled correctly; could be anti-vibe Metalstik bushes between eyebolts and yoke are softer than the ones in your TR6R?

"the various washers on both eyebolts are assembled correctly"
From top to bottom:-

. hemispherical washer hemi side down;

. centre of hemi washer pressing on steel bush, in the centre of a rubber washer, rubber washer inside a steel cup washer;

. cup washer horizontal part on the yoke;

. under the yoke, another hemi washer hemi side up;

. nut tight against flat surface of this hemi washer.

Hth.

Hi,
Yes it is the top yoke page 45/45
It is not the actual handle bars that move. They are tight with new parts,rubber washers etc.
it is the forks. They (forks,tire)seem to “twist” when turning the forks with the bars. Sorry if I didn’t explain it properly.

You need to isolate where the movement is coming from, shouldn’t be to difficult. Either in the fork legs themselves, between the fork stanchions and sliders or perhaps the wheel bearings or spindle clamps?

I have been waiting on parts but I have noticed my timing side con rod is a little bit “sticky” I used assembly lube, new big end bearings and torqued to 28 lft/lb.
I hadn’t noticed earlier but at certain spots it will not move freely(fall by itself) and there is no play from side to side only at this certain spot.
Should I pull this apart and get it to move evenly like the other one? Will oil feed sort this issue?
Thanks.

That’s what I figured. Didn’t feel right.
Originally cases split easily.
This time not so much,
Used light smear of Honda bond and seems to be holding really tight.

After pulling everything apart and getting everything measured and polished etc by a machinist. (Specs were very close to begin with )
I blew some air through the crank shaft. There was a little bit of oil left in. I noticed some air was leaking past the sludge trap nut. Pressure coming out of all 4 holes appeared to be good.Should I be concerned about this? Is it because it is higher pressure air and not oil?The pressure of the air was approx 60 lbs. will this affect oil pressure on big end ?
Plug threaded in nicely and threads were not drilled out
Thanks.
