I'm rebuilding a motorcycle for the first time. I have limited experience and lots of questions. First, should I clean out the inside of the frame to get that dirty gunk out? If so, whats the best way to tackle that?
Yes you should - I have never done it, but I would think it would be possible to rinse it out with kerosene or similar degreaser, really flush it, and then follow up with flushing oil / cheap oil and so on to get the degreaser out. That's sort of the approach I would take, but chances are there ares some folks who have done it, and know a lot more about it in our calssics, vintage and veteran forum, so I'll slide your thread over there.
I bought a case of oil and filled up with fresh fluids when it was time to start it after the rebuild.Once I had it running and idling I added some sort of motor flush stuff, ran for a few minutes and changed the oil again. After 100 miles or so I changed the gear oil and engine oil again.
After 1000 miles I added an external oil filter as well. That ought to do it.
