Let me preface that I do have the service manuals (and I read them).

I need to pull the outer gearbox cover on '67 T120R. The right footrest is in the way. I don't see anything referencing removal of right rear engine plate. Is it necessary to remove the rear engine plate to remove the outer gearbox?

And also, am I right that you can leave the kickstarter and gearchange pedal in place? Using these to wiggle the cover off?

Mount plate, No; footpeg Yes. You need a 3/4" shallow socket and you're going to get your hands dirty backing up that bolt way under there, to get the footpeg off.

Leave the kicker and shifter in place, but DO NOT move the shifter, or you'll have one or both plunger teeth fly off to a place where you are virtually guaranteed NOT to ever find them again. Remember to "re-wind" the kicker spring for re-assembly.

Hi RensFun Hog, As you withdraw cover, you'll need to turn kicker to free gear past parts. When you get so far the kicker spring will want to spin the cover & hit you in chin. Be ready for that. As was said try not to move shifter lever as you pull out. The dowel pins can fit snuggly sometimes causing you to very gently tap cover outwards, but only if needed. Again when it frees to a point it will want to spin, so grab tight.

A pretty easy job. Going back in you'll need to move kicker. It will be obvious when you are going on.

If pawls jump out because you moved lever. You'll find them. Just move lever & put them back in. Nothing is damaged or indexing lost or anything like that. Takes a little practice to install plungers, you'll soon see how it's not hard.

Gear shift lever springs, other parts here like to rust. Generally just clean off rust & it's fine. If the curved springs are worn thin on the side, or rusted replace them with late T140 springs. 57-7051. They are curved & much stiffer. Gives more positive shifting & neutral finding by better centering lever.
