Ok, I bought the factory option touring windshield and its just not giving me enough protection. Standard helmet buffeting is driving me crazy. What I need is some advise from those of you who have had a good result from a change. I'm looking at MRA, Puig and others.

Any experience with these or others??

Cheers

I'm 6'3"

I gave away my MRA Vario the day my Palmer Arrived. My wife approved the transaction on her first ride after the swap.

I'm running the large Palmer screen (lowest setting) in it's most vertical setting - first stab and I'm happy. I did do a bit of stabilizing to firm up the mount at speed.

This review best expresses my sentiments: http://www.adventurebikerider.com/c...news/217-palmer-products-screen-reviewed.html

I have the Palmer Products attachment on a Tiger 1050 (you use the original screen) and it is a big improvement.

Note - if your goal is still air behind the screen you have the wrong bike.

The Palmer Products screen splits the air (like an MRA Vario) so some goes to the shoulders from underneath and some over the screen to your helmet. Buffeting has been significantly reduced but not eliminated. This is not that kind of bike.

I'll try to attach a picture.

Yes you're right. I not trying to have a picnic behind the screen just reduce the buffet thats throwing my head around. I like the palmer screen but I have also heard that the MRA product does a good job. We've had one person on here already that he didn't like the MRA screen. Any others?

Another vote here for the Palmer set up with the Palmer large screen as well.
Buy the extra bracing bars to finish the job off. Some reckon it looks fugly but I like the looks. 140+ mph and no helmet buffeting.
Avoid the trap most of us fall into - buying 3 or 4 different screens before ending up at Mr Palmers.

Another vote for.......

Tried a MRA vario and a Cee Bailey's screen on my 955i, before settling on a medium Palmer's set up. I also fabricated a pair of bracing struts to stop the screen and upper fairing lip from flapping about at high speeds, which improved things even further. It's now significantly better than anything else i've tried and can now sit happily on the motorway at 80 + without having my eyeballs shaken out.

If you have to have bracing struts on your Palmer, doesn't that say something about the design - or lack of it ??

I don't have to have bracing struts on my homemade screen and I still say it looks better than the Palmer :

OEM Triumph Tall screen with homemade vario lip.

Each to their own I suppose :)

Puig w/ an MRA visor was my 2nd favorite windscreen.

Palmer with the factory and other OEM fit screens were ok but once I fit the Palmer Medium Screen I never went back. The large may even better at 6'2" but I don't have one to try.

I have it up full height and tilted back one notch.

Graeme, if your referring to your screen for the 955i I can guarantee you it won't work on the 1050 (mounting aside). It's a total different aerodynamic beast.

That mod looks great. Did you try any other product before this? Can I ask how you went about it?

As for the Palmer Product. I am leaning towards going down that road and use it with my standard OEM large touring screen. Has any others out there used the OEM touring screen with the brace system supplied from Palmer? How does it work? Any Vibration?

Palmer says that with this brace system I will have to drill holes in my fairing to attatch the brace system! Not really keen on that idea.

Cheers

Hi Beef,

Have a read through the "Buffeting" thread. If it can be done on a 955, it can be done on a 1050. My build starts on page 7 :

http://www.triumphrat.net/tiger-chat/81488-kill-the-buffeting-how-whom-how-much.html

I tried everything on the market without success. In the end I decided to make my own. The Triumph OEM tall screen with MRA Vario hinges and a homemade lip. MRA sell their hinges seperately.

I bought a piece of perspex from a wholesaler, cut it to shape, heated in an oven until soft enough to bend and then shaped it to the correct shape. It took a few trys to get it right, but 20,000 miles later I am so glad I did.

As I'm sure you will already know to check where the wind is hitting you, hold your left hand out in front of your helmet at say 70mph. Check where the wind flow is hitting you, and build your screen high enough to take that flow over the top of your helmet.

Hope you find something that works for you :)

I had disappointing results with OEM mount touring screens (Puig, ZeroGravity) with the Palmer kit. Stock screen worked ok.

Hey EB, what's your height? I have the Palmer kit and have considered his medium screen. The kit really helps the stock screen, but less wind and buffeting would be nice. Also, do you need the Palmer brace with the medium screen? I'm about to order the shift lever and might get the screen.

Thanks

6'2"

I'd say the Palmer / Medium works best of all the screens I've tested. It sucked in the winter though, but I haven't tried the baffle yet.

The MED screen does not need a brace kit.
