Any similaritys between a 1951 BSA Golden Flash and a pre unit Triumph? Theres one available locally for $1500.00Can. All in boxs but mostly complete. Most of the metal work and hard to find stuff is there, but I don't know anything about them(BSAs).

Not much, except for the electrics. I had a 54. It had a Sprung
Hub rear suspension. At 90mph it would shake the front brake and
clutch lever's off if you didn't hang on to them. Plus it leaked oil
from everywhere. You had better get lots of helicoils because
it's very easy to strip out primary cover bolts. For that matter,
any bolt in the block can be striped very easily. As you can tell,
it would not first be on my list.

I had a 51 A7 and a 47 A7. The early BSA twins are an odd duck. They are not a unit engine but they are not like the later A7 and A10 models. The transmission bolts directly to the back of the engine case and the primary has a tensioner much like the unit engines. The BSA's had plunger frames instead of the sprung hub like the Triumphs. I agree that the engine and transmission castings are a little scary looking. Almost makes a person want to helicoil the whole thing as a preemptive measure. I love these bikes. Keep the compression low and avoid the desire to hot rod this bike and you should be okay. A nice bike to putt around on and quite reliable for an early fifty's bike.
