2016 Street Twin Warranty Issue (Oil Leak) @ 70 miles

My buddy who was riding with me saw it and said hey "you know it's a Triumph, it's leaking oil."

I am posting as a new Street Twin owner regarding a new issue that has been found with the Street Twin during manufacturing according to Triumph. It is leaking oil from the right crank case behind the little round plastic disk because of a manufacturing defect either with the O ring or the casting (I am calling back tomorrow to find out from a mechanic the specifics). The friendly Triumph representative said most (only Street Twins, I think) have the issue, and it's too early for a recall. Mine was found today and leaking oil on to my leg and exhaust. The oil is leaking out of the bottom screw hole in the diagram.

More to come.

So, it's leaking oil from that cool, but totally pointless, disc/cover with the two hex-bolts holding it in? I remember reading on here of someone mentioning that theirs was leaking from there with their T120-Black, while it was still on the showroom floor!

To be honest, when I easily changed that cover to one of the Accessories ones, I wondered how it doesn't leak.. As there is a hole the diameter or a Dime... And nothing but a simple metal badge bolted on against it... No rubber gasket or anything.

I guess all I can do is keep a look out for this happening, hope it doesn't, and stay tuned to this thread... Good luck everyone.

Thanks @Squirrelly , for letting us know what to keep our eye out for, and what the problem actually is... Keep us up to date with what their solution is, and how it turns out... Cheers.

It's leaking from a screw hole that holds that little plastic cover on.
Plastic? but worry not. Triumph have not one, but three versions of an accessory cast aluminium cover, just cross their palm with £30 ($43.50) and they'll give you one. Example of a brushed finish one, part number A9610260:

I will. Also thanks for the part number for the accessory. I will see if they will give me two for my trouble. ;)

I have that one on my bike! I love how it looks... But... I don't think that has anything to do with the leak... According to what Squirrelly is saying/typing, the screws that hold that cover/disc on, are actually penetrating through the back of the actual engine cover that the disc bolts on to... Almost like that screw is too long, so when it's threaded in, it actually pokes through the actual engine cover. So that's where the oil can now escape. That sucks. I hope mine doesn't do that. I want to put some miles on it, but it literally won't stop raining until this coming Monday by me!

Mine leaked from there second ride and nothing since. The dealer said "It's a wax coating that melts, usually it all happens in the first start up and we wipe it off"

That must be because you are below the equator so instead of dripping down and out like mine, yours is dripping up and in. Coriolis effect magic.

It is a casting issue and the side alternator cover needs to be replaced according to Triumph. They are in stock so that's good.

Great, thanks. There has been some enquiries about the availability of a manual somewhere, at least we now know that one exists...:)
You might be talking about a post I made a couple of days ago about a "service manual" not a parts manual...
I had a call from the dealer yesterday updating me on that.....Seems they ARE NOT going to do a service manual AT ALL for these bikes!!!

That's providing the dealer got this right...and that's really pissed me off, me and a service manual is comparable to any religious nut and a bible..! :(
