I have been shopping around for a 955 daytona(sold my sprint) and just came across one. It is tornado red 2003 with white wheels and a SSSA. I have never seen this before, it is so hot. does anyone know about this?

I have heard something about something like that. I heard only 2 or 3 Centinial Editions were made in red and sold as 03s or something. Look in the Hinkley Photo Album; I think there's a picture in it. I may be pulling this out of my butt though. :???:

I had a 2002 Centennial in Aston Green which was a great bike.I think Triumph made a limited number of red ones just before the factory fire. If you like the looks you won't be disappointed with the bike as it'a step up from the Sprint, except for comfort.Suggest you fit the carbon can for maximium aural effect.

While contemplating the purchase of my CE, I called Triumph US in Georgia and got the following story. The guy I talked to didn't have exact production numbers, but stated there were approx. 350 Centenary Editions produced in Aston Green and about 200 in red. He didn't know how many were imported to the US, but said by using his data base he knew that 219 had warranty work done here.

It wouldn't make sense to have a 2003 Centennial edition because 2002 marked Triumph's 100 yr anniversary.

FWIW...I don't know of anyone who has a red model in the US.

trafficfixr, Your VIN indeed shows your new bike as a 2003 model.

Ford Mustangs celebrate anniversarys every five years and continue for one year, but encompasses two model years as it was a half year introduction. For example my '89 is a late model year car and has 25th Anniversary badges, early '90s do also. My '00 is a late model year car without any 35th anniversary badges...make any sense?

Hey trafficfixr,

Nice ride, man! I saw that on E-bay a couple days ago. It looks just like mine, except for the wheels. If I'm not mistaken, the Red CE's have an extra sticker on the top front side of the tank...something like two flags crossed up maybe. E-Mail Triumph with the VIN and they should be able to help you.

BTW, those white rims look awesome.....would look even better if the frame and swingarm were powder coated white too....dang- that WOULD be badazz!

Nice ride, bro. Keep it safe & enjoy!

Well I think you guys are right after further investigation. It is not a CE. It does however have all the CE stuff, sssa, carbon fiber inserts, blah blah blah.
As for the wheels, thats how the bike came originally, i have never seen that before either. But thats what the original owner said.

Either way, i am psyched to own it and cant wipe the stoooooopid grin off my face since i picked it up. :-D

yes it does. I changed the stock 19 toother on my Sprint to an 18 and loved it. I have read that the Tona has an 18 already and some people go to a 17. i think. :???: i would have to think about that one. The front end comes up so fast already in first, wouldnt that make it worse? I havent been in bumper to bumper traffic yet, that will be a deciding factor as well. The Sprint was brutal before the sprocket swap in traffic, it wanted to idle at 12 or 13 mph in first.
I am open to input, please share.

trafficfixr, It depends on what the rear sprocket's tooth count is. For example the DSSA '02 D955i came originally with a 19/44 (Sprint also?). The SSSA D955i models come 18/42. The net effect was nearly identical gearing.

Dropping one tooth from the c/s sprocket and adding two to the rear (like the '02's is now) is when torqueing the front off the ground becomes really easy.

All the 03 Tonas had CF inserts on them (thus, making them the best years ever :-D )

As for gearing q's...I initially dropped the front from the 18 tooth to the 17 tooth. I liked it, but wanted more low-end grunt. I went ahead and put a 44 tooth on the rear and WHOA! What a difference!

My rationalization was simple. I don't go balls out mach 10 on the highway, so losing some top end wasn'ta big deal for me. Also, most of my riding is devoted to tearing up twisty bits, so the low end grunt seemed like a natural fit...and it was!

My opinion...go for the sprocket change. the 17/44 combo (for me anyway) seemed to really liven up the bike, putting the useable torque and HP in a better spot.

Hope this all helps, and congrats again on a really great looking 03!

P.S. Good choice on color, btw. Red adds at least another 20 ponies to the ride!!!

My guess is Triumph made the CE's and had some parts left over so they made the red ones like yours. Whatever it sure looks great and stands out even among fellow owners. When the color wars start you can tell everyone to kiss off.

The 03 Red CE's were physically identical to the Green ones except they had no extra markings at all and, err, were red.
They also most definately did not come from the factory with white wheels. No modern triumph has. It may have been a Dealer mod or something but not from the factory.
I almost bought one back in 03 as I was disappointed the real Centennials didn't come in proper BRG .

955iLimited, We've had three Vipers...the most ornery car on the planet. My son did get the Y2K ACR into mid tens at 136 and was the third fastest naturally aspirated V10 in the US for a while.

PS The man in the background has his fingers in his ears for good reason...on a dyno as the V10 passes through ~3500RPM it cuts through one like a audio knife.

Who's viper is in the background on the eBay pic. Nice ride. Oh and the Tona looks sweet also. Super clean. How do you like your 2 Bros?
I really like the two brothers. I had the CF high mount on my Sprint St before the Daytona and loved that too. To tell you the truth, i have never heard a 955 with an aftermarket can on it that didnt sound awsome. I think its just personal preference.
I have ridden with ChefJPD on his Sprint RS that has a Wolf pipe on it and that sounds great too. It does have a deeper tone than the Two Bro's though.
