Hi there, my dad bought this bike new, and then after a few years, had a crazy idea to have a shop put a sidecar on it. :D

He sort of collects bikes, so he's kept this one, though he hasn't ridden it in a few years.

That's where I come in, and decided to get it back in running order, and hopefully ride it a bit before this season is up.

I had a question about the bike, and was wondering also which is the correct forum to put it in?

Welcome, post your questions in the Hinckley Classic Triples section, nice bike and I'm sure the side car will be a big hit. The bike is a 96 so be sure the battery is in good order before cranking to much on it.

Thanks. Waiting to get approved for posting now.

The last time it ran was about 3/4 years ago I'm guessing. So I naively thought that putting a new battery in it would get her fired up, but of course, that went nowhere, and it's at the shop now getting the carbs rebuilt/cleaned.

On top of that, the gas tank insides had started rusting (notwithstanding there was fuel stabilizer in there), so the tank was sent out to be relined! :D

Now, they've got it running, and we're going to replace all the fluids next.

And then, the tires, which although have tons of tread still and have seen very little UV (so my initial inclination wasn't to get new ones), they're still maybe 10 years old, so it's probably safest to change them out I'm told. Any comments on that? Or is the dealer just being too picky so they can sell me new tires? :D

Then she'll be as good as new I'm hoping!

Spend the money on new tires as 10 year old tires not good on a motorcycle. Avon are making a matched set of radials for your T-bird now (18" front and 16" rear) they haven't been out long so you might try and find some reviews. The search this forum link will be helpful as most of the problems on these bikes have been covered and there are also a lot of helpful and great people on this site.:)

Very cool rig! I suspect there are many miles of fun to be had once you get it all sorted.

Yes, the Hinckley Classic Triple section is where the folks with the knowledge and experience will be available to answer your questions. Search the threads, chance are your concerns have been addressed in depth before.

Thank you. Will check there. There's an extra twist, don't forget - I use 3 tires! :D

In the meantime, I checked the work order, and this is what they're recommending, if they can get them all he said, for about $775 US ($550 for tires plus two hours labour to install them).

Tires

The 880 Marathon is a great tire as I have ran them on the rear for a lot of miles. The first one I ran was a 160, but the new one I put on was the 150 and if you go with the 150 rpm's will go up a good bit as opposed to the 160. Also forgot about the side hack tire and can't help you there.:p

I think that model came with a seat, or you could of course ride from the sidecar with a broom handle arrangement a la Mr. Bean. :cool:
