I am in the process of purchasing a 1966 T120C aka TT, does anybody know how to tell if its a TT and not a scramblet the numbers are DU27219, who is the authority on TT's any help appreciated Thanks GIL

Gil .you will have better luck with this question in the Vintage and Veteran forum .It's under the Classics and Cruisers section.
By 66 the pipes were run under the motor (no mufflers) as opposed to the earlier one on each side high pipes.I always think of a scrambler as having 2 pipes on one side up high.
A real TT will have 12:1 compression and super hot cams and an Energy Transfer ignition.
The TR6 SC had either the 2 high pipes or 2 on a side ,scrambler style .This bike had a stock motor though and was not really a 'race 'bike.
T120 C designation was stopped in 66 and they were known officially as TT Specials.

meatwagon, thanks! Now I know how to know which model Bob Vice owned and let me ride several times... it had the high pipes on both sides, and I remember that he mentioned that it was the "something" model with different pipes. So it was a '64 TRSSC.

I test rode a new '65 TR6, road version, and man, if I could have afforded that bike I'd have been in heaven! But I was a GI with a CB160. Ah, being there then again, hmmm?

Under the jugs you'll see the engine number. If it's a TT model the designation number will read T120TT DU27219, the same with the frame, on the downpipe.

Sorry this is a few years(?) late with a reply, but hope it clears up the definition of the TT.

There have been a series of comprehensive posts on the TT model on the British Bike Forum over the years. IIRC, a BBF member named Kadutz and, of course, John Healy, had some great information. The latter is deservedly the acknowledged expert on Meriden Triumphs.
