front end parts start rolling in. Still missing some, but looks like i should get everything by the weekend and build some new forks.

i have my new ball bearings so i can at least reassembly the triple tree in the meantime.

Love the simplicity of these , 2 fork tubes rebuild with all new guts. Triple tree is rebuild and everything is back together (less fork oil) i decided to use the boots. I was on the fence as sometimes they look without. I decided to use em. They look good i thought once all together.

the bike sits now less then 1 inch from level , which makes me happy! i think this will stay just like this and I'm not going to rake it. When it's on the ground it's nearly parallel to the ground

going thru the wheels now to see what i need for rebuilding em. found some new tires at a swap meet for $20 each. little cheaper then my HD tires that just cost me a little more then $600 (ouch)

Found me a donor sporty tank off my 79. Don't yell at me  ....

The factory tanks i don't like on choppers / bobbers, they're too bulky. I imagine i can sell it to recuperate some moneys , it' appears to be in good shape. no dents etc. but the holes for the knee pads and badges are welded ... i dont know if that makes it junk or not.

i think it ties it together and and always liked the 'frisco style. i have anther one that's all rust color but this one's in better shape.

yes , it's really starting to take shape now that i'm mocking up the sheet-metal, I'm motivated to 'keep er' moving'
pretty exciting when it's at this stage i think.
ABSOLUTELY! I've mocked up more bikes than I've actually completed the builds on, I just always had too many "possibilities" for my budget.

hey all, been a month or so since my last update. it's been 'decent' out so i got out my car (69 charger) and been riding a lot. here is what i've been up too on the TR6 project.

i welded / mounted the rear fender now , less the strut rods, which i'm going to custom make. I have some ideas but dont wanna spoil the surprise. here was the rear fender and seat posts welded on , i've also fabed up & welded brackets to mount the tank. After this photo. i cut off the factory tank's mounting in the front and cleaned up the frame there. turned out good. i'm keeping the center bar. i see some people chop em out but i am still going to mount the coils and possilbly the horn in there but flip it horizontal. not 100% on that...

here i rebuilt both wheels and got some well priced shinkos from a swap meet. still keeping it budget but the wheels turned out good. just updated the bearings to the sealed ones & went together smoothly. the break shoes have lots of meat on em' yet. so i'm leaving those alone. i found both pivot pins locked up so i disassembled everything, cleaned and greased.

i did not relace the wheels only went thru with a wire brush on the inside of the rim & tightened everything. All was in good shape so i fel
t no need to clean anything there. I then replaced with new tubes , rubber strip and wheel locks.

You could have welded one downward tab from the upper frame tube, and sandwiched it with rubber biscuits using those front tank mount tabs...

i had added a 1/2" tube thru the back bone for the rear tank mount. lining that up , i had added a 1/8" temporary spacer in between the tank & raised off the frame. Front & Rear

For the front mount, i came up with drop down bracket from the back bone & drilled a 1/2" hole for a 1/2" tube i drilled out hollow. I then centered everything while mounting to rear mount loosely & tacked everything in place. Removed the tank and re-mounted to double check every thing lined up again. Then finish welded it, cleaned and painted it.

Turned out swell i think...

Here some photos of the rear fender, mounted. Don't ask where that fender came from, lol. My friend that donated it couldn't remember, best we can guess is it was shovelhead era but we don't know exactly. shrug doesn't matter now, it's chopped to fit a 65 Triumph.

There was a giant burn mark right down the middle of the fender that smoked the paint. i thought it was cool & had a lot of character which is why i picked this one out of the pile

One bracket on the bottom, one on the middle. cut out for the chain slop & center best i could aesthetically with the offset of the wheel. I used a 1/2" rubber hose tapped to the tire to space it out evenly.

hi guys. been busy with life & other projects. i made lots of progress on the TR6, thought i'd finally post up some new pics, etc :)_

i've got the tank all mocked up with the mounts etc. i like where it sits now & i'll be rid of the "sportster logo" when paint comes around.

here i cheated and ordered a proper battery for it (couldn't fab that:)

but also bought a battery hold down box. i did do some modifications to make it "mine"
i used my fathers belt he would spank me with. he gave it to me 18th birthday & said he didnt need it any longer and i can whoop myself when needed LOL i've kept it in every tool box i've owned as a reminder.
i decided i should add some "dad" to the bike since he made me the man i am today.
so i used a pc of the belt and riveted it to the hold down for the box. i thought it turned out kinda neat.

here it is in the bike with the oil tank. made a base bracket from one leg to the other and kept it away from the chain as far as i could to one side. then tac'd and finished welded it.

the oil tank i took and and "blued" it with gun blueing. Turned out like flat black-ish with what looks like oil streaks going down the front and rear. i had my wife make me the "65" with her cricut making machine out of a chrome vinyal . thought this turned out really neat too. i ended up giving the whole thing 4x coats of a Matt 2K clear to make it oil / gas resistant & to protect the "65"

here it is mounted up on the frame with the new battery.
You can also see I also finished my seat mount bracket. I'll get it powder coated black.

here i'm building some custom fender struts. i started by supporting the fender where i want it. i made got some bungs with tapped holes for the top and tapped right into the frame's support section on the bottom.
i used the old chain , stretched it to fit and cut the appropriate length / link. used an open steel rod to tack the upper and lower mounts. once tacked in place i went through and wire brushed all the oil crud off the chain. i tacked each individual link of the chain on each side. i removed the piece and screwed it into a 2x4 board with lag bolts , i ran short beads & cooling it off every cover inches. I didn't want it to warp. Once that was done, then ran heavy welds on each side to support it. Then grinding it flat on that side to clean it up. flipping it over makes it look like no welds really visible from the outside of it! or minimally at least. it was a fun project.

finished up the pack bar . i found one at a swap meet for $10 , it was in good shape , had a nice curve, just like me lol.
i cut and welded it right to the strut bars and made the chain wrap over the top of the fender. it's all one piece now. easy to remove.
i even added a chrome knuckle duster i had in a drawer i been meaning to use some where. i thought it was a good spot :)

taking the hard tail section & sheet metal out to get sand blasted at my friend's booth.

now i can paint the back bone , finish welding the oil tank mounts any other touch ups i missed.

back to being a uni-cycle and a few boxes of parts ! Again !

back to my house to prime / paint. I decided on orange a simlar orange to my 1969 charger ... cuz i like orange . Wife called me an idiot and i should do something different. With that being said ; i decided to try a faux-tina look on the sheet metal. i know i can paint something nice. i wanted to try and make it look not so nice. Which is seemingly MORE work i think in the long run!

i started out using rattle cans of browns , tans , reds to pain the whole thing rusty looking.
