Use the 80/90 as suggested. Any make will suit but i find mineral gear oil to be better than a synthetic. It takes 500cc so if you buy a half litre bottle, there is no need to use the bolt underneath for oil level. Just put in a whole 500cc bottle.

Hi Peter,

positive i can use 80/90 penrite, manual only says 50 grade.
"50 grade" is an engine oil viscosity. The SAE measures specifically gearbox oil viscosity differently so the numbers come out different. It's so paddlers at the shallow end of the gene pool don't put gearbox oil in their car engines and then sue the oil companies.

If you look particularly at '70-on Triumph Owner's Handbooks, you'll see Triumph recommended EP90 for (essentially) the same gearbox. EP = "Extreme Pressure" additives, which are (y) in a gearbox oil; the Penrite you want to use should have some.

Hth.

Regards,
