Who had theirs done at a dealer and what did they charge and who did it themselves.

I've been reading the service manual as speedy is at 11.2k and due in the next month or so.

I think I'm gonna do it myself. I feel capable of the valve check and adjustment if she needs it. There is the problem of the throttle body balance, in that you need the diagnostic tool to do this, so it will have to go in for that.

I was quoted 4-5 hrs @ $75/hr for the valve job without any parts for that or anything else on the service. :(

Holy shnikeys! I paid like $250 for my 12k service, but I think all I had done was the balancing and valve checkup. Didn't need any shims changed and everything was within spec. I'll probably get it done again when I get down to Dallas as I've got around 17-18k on the bike and just want to be safe since I'm out of my warranty. I'll eventually buy the tools for the job, but haven't had much luck finding a place to buy them online.

Anyone know where I could buy the valve check tool, shims, and any other necessary tools for the 955i/1050?

My dealer quoted me that the complete 12K service (per Triumph's checklist) is 8 hours of labor. At $75/hr, that's $600 bucks - not including parts, fluids, etc...

All in, I'm expecting a hit for around a grand... Not bad considering the only other "service" on this bike has been a few simple oil changes and tires...

Wanna save money on the maintenance job? Don't have them do the oil change, rad fluid flush, etc that you can do yourself. That should cut off a good chunk of the labor and parts. I know they liked to charge like $150 for an oil change at my dealer, but they don't exist anymore. The place closed because they refused to pick up a few more euro brands and ditch the stupid show choppers that all cost $20,000+ and look ridiculous.

I'm hoping Tekmoe's local shop is reliable. If I can buy the tools, I'd happily help people do the maintenance jobs in my garage or theirs for a fraction of the cost.

Do it yourself, valve check is easy, and if clearances are ok, then no need to pull out cams.

Beg steal ot borrow tuneboy for throttle balance. (Easy with money saved from service). Alternately your dealer should be able to do it with the Triumph Nintendo in a couple of minutes. Can't see big $$$ there.

My rocker cover gasket was weeping and got replaced under warranty. Asked mech to do a quick valve check. Easy to do and took no more than 10 mins. All clearances ok but bike only had about 2000 kms. Biggest problem was finding locally sensor safe silicon for the rocker gasket..........not to eff up the 02 sensor.

Hell I'm getting ready to take my '07 in for the 500 mile service and they want $80 hr labor x 3 hrs plus parts (oil and filter) over $75 for that. That is over $300....sorry but I am gonna do it myself just like I have always done on all my bike for over 35 years.

Good luck with your decision!!!!!!!!!!!

RPM cycles is very reliable. I need to run over there myself tomorow for a tweek on my idle.

Steve really knows his triumphs.

BTW I'm doing my own 12K, just finished all but the valve check for which I 've had a friend machine me a valve tool , to use if needed (only for us shim over guys) .

To save a buck, actually $20 , get a duc fuel filter, it's the same and fits like a glove. I also use amsoil and that saves
another $20 over mobil 1, and a pure one oil filter for half price.
