Before I get started I have to thank the nicest guy I've never met...Devious2xs. His posts on this site as well as on Thespeedtriple.com have proven to be invaluable. His knowledge of engines makes him a tuning guru and he unselfishly shares his latest findings, usually with photos. The removal of the exhaust precat, the removal of the SAI, the DIY advice for ceramic coating, his posting of tuning maps, his review of his Trident half system, the suggestion that HD dealerships probably have a dyno and more tuning experience than Japenese shops, ...the list goes on. He has patiently answered all my emails/pm's, walked me through some routine (for him) stuff, and encouraged me to do some of the work myself. His substance over BS posts keep me coming back although Cheapbastards sense of humor does keep me laughing.
I have a 2006 S3 with 2200 miles on it. I ordered the Trident CF half system and when it arrived I took the "Y" pipe and my header to HD of Frederick. They have a kick a$$ machine shop and the machinists/fabricators to go with it. I talked to Mike Shultz, a top shelf guy, and told him what I wanted. He removed the precat and ported the headers and sent everything off to be ceramic coated. When it returned I installed everything along with a BMC air filter. I then went to Fredericktown Triumph and talked to Jerry Gentry the Service Manager, another top shelf guy. He removed the SAI and installed Kuhlka's block-off plates and installed the Triumph precat removed-SAI removed-high pipe tune.
Today I rode the 35 miles to HD of Frederick at 8am in 22 degree weather. My hands were frozen after 20 miles and when I arrived my johnson looked like a swizzel stick and my boys looked like raisenettes. Anywho...Mike Shultz put the S3 on the dyno and it made 125.13 max rwhp at 9000 rpm and 77.65 max rwtq at 7500 rpm. The air/fuel is lean at full throttle and I'll probably clean that up and squeeze another few hp and tq with a Tuneboy. For now though I'm pretty happy with the results. Thanks again Devi!
