I was pounding on my fuel cap to get it to close after a fill up. Pretty disconcerting to see the level of force needed to close the cap. So I put in a thinner gasket modeled after the OEM dimensions. Works like a charm. No gas smell, no leakage, no nothing, except the cap closes with the push of 2 fingers, rather than a fist pounding. I spent a bit of time researching the materials for the gasket...
